Below is information from a bulletin board on laserdiscs. A lot of it
is info I have seen nowhere else. I don't know where the SYSOP gets
it and I don't know if it is even true, but I pass it on for you to
chew on.

IMAGE SELL OUT OF "BEAUTY AND THE BEAST"
----------------------------------------
Image Entertainment has sold out of "BEAUTY & THE BEAST-A WORK IN PROGRESS".
The street release date for this title is November 24. Image has stated that
AT THIS POINT, they will not be pressing any more. This means that AT
THIS POINT, once dealers sell out, this disc is gone. They COULD press
more, but current plans are to hold at one pressing to ensure that the disc
becomes a collectible. Some of the dealers listed online here still have
unreserved copies, so move now.

=============================================================================
OVER AT IMAGE
=============
Image is now doing in-house transfers of almost all Image, Disney and
Fox titles. Sources have stated that they have seen improvement in quality
for Image released transfer over the past year. By doing this themselves
they need not rely on the various studios.
Unless prior contract requires them to be pressed elsewhere, Image is
moving towards having all their titles pressed by Mitsubishi in Japan.
All NEW releases will come Japan.

=============================================================================
SCARFACE (Pacino - 1983)
------------------------
MCA will release "SCARFACE" (1983) in the Letterbox format. Also
"RAISING CAIN" letterboxed as well. The release date for both is Jan 27.
Prices: $39.95 for "Scarface" and $34.95 for "Raising Cain".

=============================================================================
ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW
-------------------------
Image has announced that they will release "ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW" on
Dec 23. They state that it will have a new Digital Video Transfer, Digital
Stereo, and will include the Time Warp segment of the film, that was omitted
from the the tape release. It will be tranferrred in 1.33. This is the ratio
that it was shot in. Price: $39.95.

=============================================================================
THE ABYSS
---------
THE ABYSS Special Edition Box Set went to the presses on 11/9. It will be
pressed at Mitsubishi in Japan.

=============================================================================
FROM DISNEY - THE GOLD COLLECTOR'S SERIES
-----------------------------------------
Image Entertainment & Disney are will soon announce on LaserDisc, the
"Gold Collector's Series". The first 2 releases will be "MARY POPPINS" and
"20,000 LEAGUES UNDER THE SEA". They will be CLV Letterbox releases, with
supplements on the CAV.
It has been said that Image has been preping these discs for a year, and
that the transfer and supplement quality is GREAT!
Release date is projected to be Jan 28, 1993. The retail price is $69.99

Finally! It's ironic that Image and not Disney is doing this but, hey,
I've been waiting for a decent pressing of both these films (especially
"20,000 LEAGUES" -- the old disc release was time-compressed -- boo!).

I have seen the write-up for Scarface in the latest "Laser Disc Event" that
I pick up free at the video store. (Actually most of the info given seems
to be taken from there, the info on Mary Poppins and 20,000 Leagues says that
the info is unconfirmed and is to be taken with a grain of salt).

Here what it says on Scarface (which is definitely coming out in Jan):

$39.98 - 2 Hrs 50 Min - R - 3 Sides
Letterboxed (2.35:1 Aspect Radio of the 35 mm anamorphic theatrical prints)
Color, Digital, Dolby Surround Sound, CX Encoded
Chapter Stops, theatrical trailer

I was hoping since it was taking so long for the widescreen version to come
out, that they would release an "uncut" version. I remember when this movie
first came out, the director was forced to cut some violent scenes out of the
movie to get it down to an "R" rating.

Classic movie, in the same sad way "Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer" was.

I am glad that they are comming out with a new LBX version of
Scarface, although I cant image it being more violent (uncut version). The non LBX
version has a pretty lousy soundtrack

YES! It's about time! I hope this is a sign of things to come!

Ouchie 8-<. OK OK, minor setback, but it's still worth it to know that
Disney is finally letterboxing their movies!

Hi, Bill. Can you tell me about this Americom BBS? Is it a major outfit? The
only place I've found news about Laser disks has been on Compuserve in the
Consumer Entertainment Forum where it's mixed in with a lot of other news and
on Genie, which had a fairly chatty section devoted entirely to laser disks,
and some really excellent reviews by a guy called Wes Holt. I'm not willing
to spend the megabucks to sort out the CI$ material and have unjoined Genie
recently because I was only using it for the laser disk material and not much
else. Just wondering what the amount of info is on this Americom BBS and how
often it appears...

I told you all I know. It is free to use. But you will have to pay
long distance charges. It is only available 10P to 8A Pacific Time.
So you have to be a night person. And the phone is frequently busy.
Explore it and tell us. I haven't been able to get on too often.
