Shot a dance recital with the HV-20 last weekend. Looked at it on my 26"
portable monitor. If the lighting was low, it was very grainy and static
pattern confetti noisy. If there was anywhere near adequate light it was
fine. Could look stunning if lit properly. Haven't tried a wedding
situation yet. Might mess around a little with it Saturday.

Anyone tried it with a wedding yet? Are there any good noise filters in
the HD editing programs? Still not up with mine yet. Soon. Got all the
parts.

That's video for you. Even professional cameras will show noise in low-
light conditions.

I'm thinking the 3-chippers will be kinder on noise.

I could be WAY wrong but my memory is that someone posted here that the low
light performance was better in 24p.

The 24p low light performance on the HV20 is noticeably better.

This is why if I were still shooting weddings and events, I would
still be using Sony VX2000s/2100s - these can shoot good
footage in VERY low light levels. My HV20 can make it down
only to bright interior light levels, but I've shot some good candle
lit rooms and night exterior footage with the Sonys. With the HV20
in 24p mode (hard to edit properly), you MAY get a bit more
low light range, but with it set with the shutter at 1/30th, you do
get to a little lower level. When you MUST get the shot, the best
Mini-DV is still the way to go - but if you know you will have
enough light, the best HDV looks MUCH better.

before spending that much money, try using a video noise filtering software

That is correct but it is too jumpy for a dance recital.
