Hello,
I am trying to find out which camera would be best for independent
film, in the 1500.00-3000.00
range HD, using 24P. Canon, Sony or Panasonic....considering
sharpness and versatility for
editting, etc.
Thanks!

Hi,
That would be U.S. dollars, Thanks!
Mike
Hi, Thanks for the response,
Any edge in the Sony over Canon....heard something about color quality
in Canon not as good, and the film look also....
also, would the time code feature and HDMI be important for my 1
camera production in editing?
Thanks again,
Mike

Now that he specified that he meant US currency, do you have any advice to
give him?
Any?
Any thoughts?

That would be the thread I started just yesterday about colour
correction. i believe the qualifier used was "different", not "not as
good". It's a choice of esthetics. Also, I did mention that the film look
on the XH-A1 is excellent.
You might want to re-read the thread just so you don't misinterpret
anything.

You don't use the HDMI port for editing, just for outputting to an HD
video monitor or screen.

Don't be such a dick!

I don't think the XH-A1 has quite come down to $3,000 yet.

Well I have seen it for that once you add all the extras....Thanks for
the input,
leaning toward the Sony HVR-A1U now..hear it's lighter than the Canon,
and has the 1/3 CCD's, where the FX7 is shown to have 1/4"....just
hope
the Sony film on teh A1U look is as good as the Canon's..
Can anybody offer any thoughts on this?
Thanks alot!
Mike
I wonder why some people even bother getting up in the morning and coming
to a newsgroup. They obviously have no intention of being helpful, and
their only interventions (such as that above) serve to vent some obscure
frustration.
I doubt now that we know the currency is US$ that Mr. Fleisher will even
bother to offer advice. That was never his intention.

Thank you Leslie, your point is appreciated, however I'd still
appreciate
the opinions.....for example, is the 1/4" CMOS ships x 3 in the Sony
FX7
any less in quality to the 1/3" CCD chips in the Canon XH A1 in terms
of being able to deliver a comparable pic in low light with the least
artifacting, and anything else?
I am partial to the descriptions of the Sony, with it's Zeiss Lens,
and ability to deliver perhaps richer(or different) colors.....
Thanks to all for your input on the best recommended camera for film
short in the under $5K range...
Mike
well, from my own experience, i opted for a v1p (fx7 is the non xlr
version?). i tried the canon a1 but i didn't:
a. like the build quality, it felt sort of flimsy.
b. like a brick when used off the tripod, and since i have small hands,
the zoom rocker was a real pain to use.
c. the colour, which in comparison to the sony looked sort of washed
out. BEFORE anyone flames me, i am well aware of the amazing tweaks
available on this camera regarding colour, but i don't, in general, have
time to run and gun AND tweak.
d. the lcd on the canon is a bit of a joke....
e. i thought the canon picture a little softer, BUT i didn't do side by
side comparison.
but i reiterate, try before you buy. it matters bugger all what i have
to say, YOU're the one who has to hold the thing, look at the lcd, and
decide if you want the tweakability or practicality...
