SO I bought a open box HG10 that went onsale online only. I am now
returning it and buying from the same store online ata big savings.
The Panasonic is only 50$ more? It records at a higher data rate
17mbps v. 15mbps. Also the Panasonic has a optional DVD burner that
hooks to the camera. TOast takes like 4 hrs to burn a dvd from AVCHD
files. ( unless I am doing it wrong, can u burn as a data disk?) Any
thoughts is it a smart move?
thanks
ian

I guess with the new Canons coming in a month the smart thing would be
to wait.

My pleasure helping you Ian! The link describing this drive is at:
http://www.crutchfield.com/S-rU2nRrRHFlN/App/Product/Item/Main.aspx?i=280DW100

The page above has a link on the lower left side of the page to the 30 page
owner's manual, which you can download as a pdf.

This owner's manual on page 7 shows that the total recording time varies
from 10 to 40 minutes based on which type of standard or high def disk you
are trying to burn, and which recording speed and disk type (single or
double layer) is being used.

Please consult the table at the bottom of page 7 for the complete burning
time required you specifically are interested in.

Hope this helps,

Smarty

Also consider Ian that unlike Toast or most other PC software solutions,
your AVCHD high def disk will NOT be re-rendered or transcoded, thereby
giving you an exact copy of the video content with no degredation
whatsoever. This is a very important feature for AVCHD in particular, which
otherwise would take both rendering time and image quality penalties when
AVCHD disks are burned.
