You might want to take a look at the Seagate Theater HD+ media server
box for well below $100. It seems to play everything I have thrown at it
including a lot of AVCHD and BluRay 1920 bu 1080 as well as lesser mpeg2
1440 by 1080 content. The players are cheap, reliable, and only suffer
from one minor complaint IMHO, namely, the remote control needs to be
pointed a bit carefully towards the unit to operate reliably.

If you can splurge for a little extra, the Sony Playstation 3 plays my DV AVI
files beautifully and plays AVCHD files too.

But what brand of NAS do you have on your network?

Not all NAS work as media servers. Some just are mapped to network drives and
are not DNLA or uPnP compliant
