Double layer problem

Hello
I have a Pioneer u303 dvd drive and a Realmagic H+ decoder,latest
version.When I play "The Matrix",it plays exactly up to chapter 20,then my
machine gets a black screen and locks up.I guess,the problem is that my dvd
drive ain't able to play double layered dvd's.I already upgraded the
firmware to 1.10,but nothing changed

Any suggestions ?

I had an Encore DXr2 2x drive that played RSDL disks with no problem for around a year, but then
started to have problems with older RSDL disks and wouldn't play new ones at all. Finally, I bought
a new 5x drive and kept the 2x for playing single-layer disks.

I think that the optics or the focusing mechanics can degrade over time so that the drive isn't able
to focus accuately enough to read the second layer.

I don't know.I don't even know whether "The Matrix" is a double layer dvd,I
just suppose it.But all my other dvd's run fine

"The Matrix" is a double layer dvd. The layer change (if memory serves me
right) occurs when they've entered the Matrix to go to the oracle, and just
leaves the building where they entered the matrix (sorry, don't have the
exact time).

Yep Ive got the exact same problem playing the matrix on a samsung sd604f,
Sometimes it will lock up before ch.20 though
i believe the changeover is at 1:07:43 just befor ch.20
still deosn't help though as i find the only real way i can watch the film
is to play up to ch.19 then forward on to ch.21
complete madness for a brand new disk playing on a drive which samsung say
is dual layer disk compatible,
bollocks!

I did watched Matrix yesterday on my 303S with ATI DVD player 6.0 it worked
fine except for the bonus section (Picture freeze)

With PowerDVD 2.0, I did not have any problem watching the bonus section.

I am joining this thread late. But I know the
problem that you are having. I have a pioneer 414
and have played this disc in two players and it
skipped at this exact point, the difference is
that the Pioneer handled it better than the RCA
(the other player). Still, I am going to return
the disc and try for better luck.

I had exctly the same problem, i.e. chapter20 on "The Matrix".
With a Toshiba sd m1202 and a Hollywood +
Updated the firmware on the DVD drive and it's now perfect.
