I intend to transfer my home digital movies to my PC, edit them and add
subtitles - then burn them to DVD. I'm looking for a decent, free
movie editor. Any suggestions?

I'll give it a try - but it seems a lot of people don't like it.
Thanks......

It works, it is free.
It is better than some that I have tried that cost.

If you want a reasonable one that wont cost much Nero 9 has quite a good
one. and you get a lot more besides.
but you have to pay for the suite it cost about 40 in total

I personally use Corel (Ulead) x12 which is good. but not free.

I downloaded the trial version of Nero 9 but couldn't see how to edit
digital movies - then my trial ran out. Do you use Nero Vision to edit
movies?

Yes Nero Vision. it is quite user friendly and it has a lot of templates
for the DVD and backgrounds etc all part of the kit.

It looks a bit 'unpolished ' if you compare it to Corel x2 or Pinnacle (
which I cannot get the hang of) but the end results are very good and it
will do almost all the video formats you can think of. including AVCHD. and
it is not as processor hungry as most other programs. I had it running on a
3.2gig P4 HP with 1 gig memory XP pro and it was stable and worked with HD
footage at 1080P quite happily if a bit slow.

The trial is a bit of a pig as it is not full function . the full prog is
good. It allowed AVCHD disk burning on the P4 but Corel would not even
touch the disk burning because of the processor speed.

It comes with Hard Disk utilities, TV recorder, sound editing in 7.1 data
recovery, Burning rom software, DVD copying software and lots more.. as I
said a bargain and it works.

This is my own opinion and I have no connection to Nero other than I use it.
I had to get it to burn the AVCHD disks and have been happy with the
results.

(I have a faster computer now)

Better late than never - but thank you. I bought Nero 9. Now I'm
looking for freeware that will convert MP3 files to WAV files.

Practice, practice, practice.

Read the help, although when I last had Nero, that wasn't quite possible --
every time I updated the help disappeared, and I couldn't always get it
back :-)

Things really do get easier with practice, and after all, you haven't had
the program very long, so try to be patient.
