'System ASPI' - what is it?

I'm a DVD and Nero novice, so would appreciate some help understanding
this please. If I use the Nero Info Tool, under the ASPI tab there's a
drop down box with two entries: System ASPI, and Nero ASPI, which
respectively show the following details when selected:

Nero ASPI

----- ------- ------------ ----------------
Nero ASPI
WNASPI32.DLL 2.0.1.74 164112 bytes October 26, 2004
"ASPI is installed and working properly"

System ASPI
------------
WnASPI32.dll n/a 126464 bytes January 12, 2005
"ASPI file(s) are missing"

How do I interpret this please? Should I take some action (what?) to
install these missing System ASPI files?

Apart from some problems with one of the programs I use, MemoriesOnTV
(arising I'm 99% sure from a bug), all my 'DVD stuff' seems to be
working OK. I can play DVDs with various players, such as PowerDVD and
Nero ShowTime, and write DVDs with Nero Express.

Any advice would be much appreciated please.

If you are using Win2K or XP(all based on NT), UNLESS you have some old
outdated software that needs an installed ASPI layer, your OS has its own
native win32 NT scsi layer. I recommend NOT installing the ASPI drivers
unless you need them for some older software..

The term 'ASPI' is an acronym that stands for: Advanced SCSI Programming
Interface. All the following terms are synonymous: ASPI layer, ASPI drivers,
ASPI interface. The term 'SCSI' [scuzzy] is an acronym that stands for Small
Computer Systems Interface.

Some CD audio ripping programs require an ASPi layer be installed even
though there are no SCSI device in the computer. That's because they like to
treat an IDE device as if it were scuzzy.

Download a programe called Force ASPI

For some reason on XP systems it doesn't always get the ASPI setup
correctly for writers. I have had that problem only once luckily for
me on my system at home but forceaspi cured it
