Last scene memory dvd recorder

I have an lg recorder that has last scene memory. How doed it work. As
far as I know is the only memory is ram although more than one might
think. Is there some small section that has some permenate memory.

I've forgotten the acronym, but there is a type of RAM that holds its
values when not under power. EEPROM, maybe?
