The new guy

[ReverendFuzzy]

Hi everyone... just a quick note to let you know there's a new guy on
the list (me).
I've been making video on and off since the 80's... much of my work
has been on television in the past, but nothing you've probably ever
seen outside the deep south. My recent stuff is mostly short subjects
and humor videos that'll see on YouTube, and other places. Talk @
y'all later.

The videos I've created have been on television... for a while, I was
working as an independant contractor, operating the studio equipment
for those who needed a crew at a descent price... at one point, I was
running 3 different shows.

I wish I could work for a station... you practically have to wait for
someone to DIE, before you can get on the staff.

Well, when I go to a YouTube page, I *always* think that the big
picture in the main part of the frame is the video that the URL refers
to.

Looks like I am just as naive as Brian :-)

Ok, for future (or maybe futile) reference, any time the main .com
URL, followed by a slash, and a userID is a link to someone's CHANNEL.
Example: http://www.youtube.com/reverendfuzzy0

A YouTube URL that starts with "http://youtu.be", followed by what
seems to be random alphanumerics is a direct link to a video in the
YouTube database.
Example: http://youtu.be/xwbhcK3G4Eo

...the more you know. :)

And then how would I know which video or videos you had in mind for us?

Obviously a direct link to a single video is easier to deal with in
that respect, but if you really intend for someone to see a particular
video or certain videos in a set, and you want to use a channel, it
would be helpful to provide some guidance to those of us who don't know
about channels. Others might very well make the same mistake that Brian
and I made before.

But now that you have told me (us) about channels, I can decide how
I'll present the information when I have several videos to point to. I
might even decide to continue to do as I have done before, list each
URL separately and precede each link by a remark or two about the video
it directly points to.

Of course, I don't yet know how to make the best use of channels, so
maybe I'll change my mind after I learn more. Or maybe not, thinking
about how I misinterpreted your link, and who my audience might be...

I was using an iPad to access YouTube, the iPad has its own YouTube app
that starts up when ever a you goto an YouTube address and the view on the
YouTube app is different than the view for the YouTube site when you access
it from a browser using a computer.

I just wanted to take a look at a few of your videos to find out what type
of videos you are making.

Ok, lets try it, and see what happens....

1. take the normal "direct to a video in thier database" url,
IE: http://youtu.be/nuAdFLn6tlw

2. Add a bit of inline frame HTML code to it, in a text editor, like
this....

<iframe width="420" height="315"
src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/nuAdFLn6tlw"
frameborder="0" allowfullscreen>
</iframe>

3. Save it as an HTML page (aka: .htm extension)

4. Open the page in your browser.

That was very easy and it worked like a charm.

Well, I did make two changes.

1. I chose the URL of a folk dance video I had previously looked at.

2. I saved the file as .html rather than .htm :-)
