It is an excellent program. I reviewed Vegas and others for editing
HD HDV, and it is the best program I've tried for doing this - and it's
also cheap, at -- http://www.donferrario.com/ruether/hdv-editing.htm.
I also wrote an instruction guide for it, at --

note is unfortunately a day late for taking advantage of the $40 rebate
on it (www.newegg.com had the notice and a price with free shipping
that would have made its price $50 total, but it expired on December
2nd...). It is still an excellent buy for an editing program without the
rebate, and it is somewhat cheaper if you skip the "Pro Pack" part of
Sony Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 9.

Tiny URL provides the option of a preview URL. Maybe ly does too, I don't
know, but ISTM the OP wants to hide his site, so he wouldn't give a preview
anyway...

I looked around a bit. Bit.ly (http://bit.ly) is getting more popular, it
seems. Anyway, on their site, they point to this:

It's an add-on to Firefox to give a preview to a link.
TinyURL gives you two links when you process the long link, one of which is
a previewing link. That looks easier, since with bit.ly, it looks to me
like you'd have to copy a link in a post and transfer it to Firefox (and
not Opera or Chrome, I guess), whereas with Tiny, you just could just click
the preview link (if the poster provides it!) in a post, e-mail, whatever.
No, it's not that easy. I read further: the link that you check out has to
be embedded in another web page being viewed in Firefox, and you hover the
cursor over it. But it also parses TinyURLs to some extent.
Anyway, it's getting complicated and I have a lunch engagement, so I won't
look at what happens when you link from elsewhere. Like a newsreader...

I spent a little more time on the URL shrinkers.
1. TinyURL's preview link works from wherever you click it, but the person
who posts a link has to choose the right one (or post both). The link takes
you to a page with info on the link, and you have to click again to go to
the destination if you decide it's OK. If the link isn't a preview link,
you could copy and edit it: just change http://tinyurl.com/something to
http://preview.tinyurl.com/something.
2. Bit.ly's plug-in works only in Firefox, it seems, and shows a pop-up
when you pass your cursor over a link in a web page in Firefox. If you
click on a link, in Firefox or elsewhere, you go directly to the site
without preview.
It's all less complicated than I thought at first, now that I'm not hungry
:-)
I'd already been mostly using TinyURL preview links, for the sake of my
correspondents, and given the above, I'll stick with that for now.
