Sony HVR-V1U - Back focus problem

A local videographer is selling off some gear, including a Sony HVR-
V1U camcorder, however it has a back focus issue and he says will
require a lens alignment or service from Sony. I asked him how much it
would cost, but he didn't know at the time. Just wondering if anyone
has had a similar problem with their camcorder and how expensive it
was to fix? Would $1000 be too much to pay for the camera with this
issue, or is an alignment not that expensive?

I wonder how a camcorder could have a back-focus problem, unless it was
dropped or otherwise physically traumatized.
Meanwhile, you can't really test it until *after* the repair :-(
