Traveling to Germany in august, any advice on things to see and do. Also how
far is Austria from Munchen and will I have trouble crossing the border?

Joe, suggest you go to used book store and by a book on Europe before
you take your trip. like Fodor's or
Frommer's......they will teach you a lot.

Hey:

Since you mentioned Munich specifically, I'll offer one of the more
memorable sights I visited while there: The "Deutsches Museum".

http://www.deutsches-museum.de/e_index.htm

I've been to many science museums in different cities, but this one
really impressed me. For instance, the areas on "Mining" actually
recreate period mine operations which you walk through, rather than
just a bunch of static displays.

One warning: Allow a full day. I ran out of time and wished I had
alloted more.

Haben Sie gute Ferien!

I don't remember the exact travel time, but my wife and I took a day
trip to Munchen from Salzburg, Austria. We went by train and returned
to Salzburg the same day, so it couldn't have been too long a trip.

Salzburg is a very nice town to visit, complete with an imposing
castle on top of the local mountain. Good luck!
