I will be in Guanacaste province in a week and would like to know if
anyone knows of any towns that are having their annual fair during the
weekend of Saturday, 17 June, or 8 July.

Also, if anyone knows of any website (Spanish or English language)
devoted to Guanacaste fairs/rodeos.

Oh! Are you ever going to have fun! I think they are in Liberia, but I am
not sure.

When I was in Guanacaste two years ago, I went to the Cattle fair in
Liberia. I recall that it rained heavily that evening, causing the
rodeo to be cancelled, but the food was great and there was plenty of
music. From my travel notes... that Friday would have been July 23. So,
perhaps the Cattle fair is held there every year around the end of
July?

I believe that's part of the annual late-July celebration of Guanacaste
joining Costa Rica in the late 19th cent. I was told that thieves are
attracted to those (relatively) big celebrations so a bit of caution is
warranted.

Oh, yes, that's it! You're right. It was the union of Guanacaste and
the rest of Costa Rica. I was thinking 'cattle' because there was a
rodeo and a cattle-judging competition.
