GUIDELINES FOR POSTING - rec.travel.latin-america

Welcome to REC.TRAVEL.LATIN-AMERICA.

Friends of travel and 'aficionados' of Latin America,

This is a semi-regular posting to the unmoderated newsgroup
rec.travel.latin-america. This newsgroup provides an electronic
conferencing system for the Mexican, Central American, and South American
travel community on the Internet.

This forum is for Latin American related travel queries,
recommendations, information and articles on Latin American exploration.
Travelers are welcome and encouraged to browse, read, question, post
articles, updates, journals, and use this newsgroup within these
guidelines to their maximum advantage. Enthusiasm, realism, reason and
courtesy are appreciated.

PURPOSE
This newsgroup's sole purpose is to be the non commercial venue for
lively exchange of travel related information and cross-cultural
communications about one of the most fascinating places in the world,
Latin America! This is a usage guidelines document. Please read before
posting to rec.travel.latin-america.

TOPICS
This newsgroup is for travelers and explorers. The main topic and
dominant subject feature is Latin American travel. Discussions may
include other interests (culture, archaeology, architecture, ethnology,
photography, history, geology, politics, diving, mountain climbing, arts,
music, cuisine, ecology, ornothology, etc.,) as subordinate sub topics.
Those with specific historical, social, ethnic, cultural and other
interests are directed to
(soc.history.latin-america, soc.culture.latin america, alt.architecture,
sci.archaeology.mesoamerican, rec.scuba.locations etc.) groups
specifically emphasizing those subjects as curriculums rather than
travel. Commercial and advertising sub-topics, posts, and re-posts are
entirely off topic and not permitted.

NO ADVERTISING!
This newsgroup allows Latin American travelers to share experience and
ideas and help one another - much like we do on the road. This is NOT a
forum for advertising, solicitations, services, and commercial interests.
Such posts are NOT welcome! There is nothing wrong with commerce and
advertising, this just isn't the place for it. If you have a product,
property, rental, or a tour, please post your message in
rec.travel.marketplace or other locations. Whether it is 'wanted to buy,
hire or rent,' or 'for sale, lease, or trade,' this group is not the
location for marketplace transactions. Travel agents, publishers,
realtors, distributors, retailers of goods and services, travel related
or otherwise, this is not the correct location for your posts and
unsolicited advertisements. Post to your group: rec.travel.marketplace.

The objective of our newsgroup is to disseminate information regarding
travel in Latin America. The purpose of messages is to share travel
information, not sell products or services. While these can be mentioned
in a post, the sale itself should not be the primary reason for putting
the message onto this newsgroup. Consider this newsgroup a running
dialogue of questions, answers and commentary. Often the answer to a
question will be a particular destination, product or service. As you
also find on your travels, it's helpful to have this information. But you
don't want to be accosted by total strangers who yell "BUCKET AIRFARES TO
GUATEMALA!" and then disappear into a dark alley.

Please be respectful of the dialogue. Share topical information and
contacts for further information, but never make commerce or
advertisement the reason for posting to this group.

INAPPROPRIATE POSTS
Inappropriate posts such as commercial or off topic posts, multiple
posts, cross posting to multiple newsgroups, spamming, unsolicited
advertisements, foul language, or innuendoes that are disrespectful of
the other users or people and nations in this mega-region are prohibited.
Violators of courtesy and netiquette may find themselves bombarded by e-
mail and flames from the supporters of rec.travel.latin-america. Please
practice thoughtful, considerate and courteous behavior. Posters are not
to cross-post articles between rec.travel.latin-america and other
newsgroups. Single post your article to this location to limit the
'thread drift' that takes place between various subject matter groups,
the diverging responses and dialogues that then ensue in both locations
add to 'noise and clutter. As a consequence, spamming and multiple posts
are not permitted.

RESPONDING TO INAPPROPRIATE POSTS:
Off topic responses are also off-topic and add clutter to the newsgroup.
Please direct comments to the original poster and/or their responders via
e-mail. Avoid depositing additional garbage and attracting flies. Users
of the newsgroup are encouraged to 'diplomatically' police the newsgroup
to retain it's value as active asset to Latin American travel
aficionados.

GENERAL GUIDELINES FOR POSTING TO REC.TRAVEL.LATIN-AMERICA
Before you post an article to rec.travel.latin america, stop to consider
if another subgroup of rec.travel such as the following would be more
appropriate instead.
PLACES: rec.travel.africa, rec.travel.asia, rec.travel.australia+nz,
rec.travel.caribbean, rec.travel.europe, rec.travel.usa-canada,
rec.travel.misc (travel in areas or on topics not specified above or
below).
MODES: rec.travel.air, rec.travel.cruises, rec.travel.resorts,
rec.travel.resorts.all-inclusive, rec.travel.bed+breakfast.

If there is a rec.travel.foobar, for instance, all discussion of foobar

on the Newsgroups: header line) between rec.travel.latin america and

CROSSPOST TO rec.travel.latin-america.

This newsgroup is a bulletin board for shared information and is not
intended for communication from one person to another. That doesn't mean
that the posters or senders name should not be used, what it does mean
that if one person wants to communicate with another person, email should
be used.

Test messages should not be posted to this newsgroup. Test posters are
advised to use alt.test, misc.test or other test sites.

READ THE FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS LISTS
Some groups maintain a list of frequently asked questions (called a FAQ),
which the groups post periodically (generally once a month). Always read
a group's FAQ before posting any questions to the group. Quite often,
your question has been asked before (possibly many times), and asking it
again won't generate any new information.

There is some excellent and highly recommended information summarizing
how to best and most appropriately enjoy and utilize newsgroups & usenet
in the newsgroup 'news.announce.newusers'

FEEDBACK:
If you don't wish to see this article again, put the subject line, which
will never change (after the final form is hashed out!), in your kill
file. For instructions on kill files for your newsreader, OR if your
system doesn't get any of the rec.travel subgroups, talk to your system
administrator.

If you have comments or suggestions on how to make this periodic post
more useful, please email: Michael Swigart, swi...@intelligencia.com.
More information about the formation of this group, history and purpose
is available in the occasional post to rec.travel.latin-america titled:
'Statement of Purpose.'

MEMORIUM: This newsgroup was co-founded by BRAD MARTIN,
Brad Martin, hond...@aol.com, who passed away October 25, 1996. The
Aficionados miss him and respect his memory.

Note that rec.travel.latin-america does not have a FAQ. We were
going to start one, but it was too big a job. RAF

I agree with Richard below

This is a travel/rec site. We should not be posting about Prostitution

in Mexico or any other country.

I will not reply to the rude post by others on Prostitution!

Thanks.......

Richard,

I agree prostitution is a subject we should avoid.
However hard you try you won't ban it though as some people consider that as
the only reason to discover other cultures.
Those who can't grasp it with the brain go for the...
