a week in either: malta, majorca, or turkey. preferably on the coast.

due to 'unforseen' we need to keep the price down, any suggestions please?

Go to a travel agent and ask for a "late availability".

Do you really think people on a random newsgroup are going to be able to
magically come up with a location that has space in the absolute peak month
of the year?

In France.

Not Malta, Majorca or Turkey, and I don't know if it was half-board
either. That said, I don't know why the OP had to be so specific...

I can mention places where I've just turned up and got something in
August (most recently Sardinia, and the Istrian peninsula) but they
didn't include half-board- nor were they in that limited number of
places the OP mentioned. One of them didn't even have breakfast! :)

I don't know where the poster is from, but if the UK, then Tim's
suggestion to use a travel agent is a good one.

Majorca will probably be the best then. Plenty of cheap hotels, beach, and
you should be able to get a cheap flight too. Malta is rather pricey.
Turkey itfels is cheap as well, but getting there will cost more than
Majorca.

Frank

But the question isn't one of "where's a location that's cheap", it's one of
"where's a location that's going to have so many empty rooms in the peak
month of the year that they will be sold at a discount to people who turn up
at the door".

The problem with going on spec to an island is, if you get it wrong, you are
stuck

Hi,

if you've got some experiences in your destination (so you know which
hotels to pick etc) try travelocity's last minute deals...

I hear Bournemouth's quite nice and there are a lot of B&B deals around at
the moment.

Sure does. I used to have a client who guest-conducted it a few times.

Very much a guest conductor - Louis Clark of 'Hooked On Classics' 'fame'! I
used to do his PR.

I think the reason was that his manager's parents used to live in
Bournemouth.

Gosh- if you were conscious in the early 80s in the UK could you have
missed it? :)
