Tastes vary so much that it is difficult to provide a general answer.
Visit Trinity College. Don't visit just the Book of Kells. See the
Long Room in the Library; stroll around a bit.
The National Museum and the National Gallery might be worth your while
-- depends on your interests.
Take a walk around Merrion Square to get the best of Georgian Dublin.
The Irish Music Centre in Smithfield might interest you, and a visit
to the Jameson Distillery exhibition nearby is fun.
Christchurch Cathedral is worth an hour of your time.
"The Ripley Court" is located very close to the city centre. The area
is fairly safe (nothing is totally safe -- sensible levels of caution
are recommended), but there are some more challenging neighbourhoods
not too far away. Don't move too far to the east (further from the
city centre); be a little cautious about northwards late at night.
