Park Guell, in Barcelona, is one of the most famous architectural feats
accomplished by zany, Modernist architect, Antonio Gaudi. Complete with
ornately-tiled mosaics, bizarre rock formations, Classical Greek columns,
Palm trees and rolling, grassy hills, undulating, serpentine benches, a
house in which Gaudi actually lived for the last half of his life, and a
colorful, tile lizard standing guard at the front gate, the park is a
must-see for anyone passing through the city of Barcelona, especially those
in search of distinct sights and places to snap a few quality photos. Did
you know the park was originally intended to be a private, walled city, with
roads, a marketplace, and 60 homes? Well, Gaudi died after completing the
first 2, after which time the park became a public recreation area and
tourist attraction, as it is today.
