This message is for Mr. Friede, who sent a post from Germany (University
of Karlsruhe?) asking for contacts in Northern Ireland for the school trip
he is reading. I tried to reply outside the news group to his email
address, but it looks like I failed so I thought I would post to the
group.
Dear Herr Friede,
I saw your message regarding your Northern Ireland trip and thought I
would respond, with enthusiasm. I think it's great that you are going and
there are many wonderful groups there, some of whom I've met with and some
of whom I've heard from or heard about. I spent the summer of 1995
studying the peace process for my undergraduate thesis-- mostly from the
Republic of Ireland but I spent some time in Belfast as well. (I'm
sending this to two addresses you had listed to be sure you get it.)
Here's the list:
All Children Together
13 University Street
Belfast 7
Phone: 080 1232 327 335
ACT is an amazing support organization for the province's
inter-denominational schools (with both Protestant and Catholic children.)
I would highly recommend you contact them; they're magnificent people.
--------
Youth Link
15 Martinez Ave.
Belfast BT5 5LX
Phone: 080 1232 665 870 or 681 859
I'm not entirely sure what Youth Link does but it's a cross-community
organization.
--------------
Co-Operation North
7 Botanic Avenue
Belfast BT7 1JG
Phone: 321 462 Fax: 247 522
Co-Operation North is a cross-border organization fostering links between
Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. It is a stellar
organization.
---------------
The Community of the Peace People
Fredheim
224 Lisburn Road, Belfast BT9 6GE
Phone: 663 465 Fax: 683 947
The co-founders of this group, who have since parted ways, received the
Nobel Peace Prize in 1976. I don't know how active they still are but I'm
sure there are good people affiliated with the organization.
-----------------
Women Together for Peace
224 Lisburn Road, Belfast BT9 6GE
This group organized a pro-peace rally after the IRA bombing last Monday,
and I believe orchestrated rallies early this year as well after the IRA
resumed bombings on mainland Britain.
----------------
Northern Ireland Community Relations Council
6 Murray Street
Belfast BT1 6DN
Phone: 439 953 Fax: 235 208
Sponors a good newsletter and good workshops.
---------------
GROUPS IN THE REPUBLIC OF IRELAND: (some of these sponsor events across
the border, some bring people from Northern Ireland to the Republic, some
do both.)
Co-Operation North
37 Upper Fitzwilliam Street
Dublin 2
Ireland
Phone: 353 1 661 0588 Fax: 661 8456
See above. Can also contact at this address:
Glencree Centre for Reconciliation, which sponsors a newsletter, summer
schools and workshops. Phone: 662 0355.

Meath Peace Group
c/o Judith Clancy
Parsonstown, Batterstown, Co. Meath

Lovely people. Concerned parents, community members bringing people down
from Northern Ireland to speak, promote understanding.

I hope this helps. I wish you all the best in preparing for your trip.

We are a group of 9 pupils and students from Germany who want to make a
political trip to Northern Ireland in summer 97.
Now I'm looking for adresses of interesting groups and organisations we
could meet there either for a short visit or for to stay a few days. We
are exspecially interested in groups who work for peace in Northern
Irland.
If you know anything or if you have been there yourself, please email
me!
Thanks
Wolfgang Friede
