What a joy to live in a location like Antwerp! Friday evening, Annie
and me decided promptly to take a Saturday to Paris and off we went!
Saturday the Thalys of 6.44 AM- arrival In Paris 9.05. AM! Train back
scheduled at 21.55 to Bruxelles-Midi, connection the Brussels-Antwerp
IC train of 23.34.
A whole day Paris! The "Paul Signac" exhibition at the Galeries
Nationales du Grand Palais was great. A superb retrospective of about
90 paintings and 50 aquarelles. This painter, which was a great
admirer of Seurat, was a long time the underdog of French
neo-impressionism. But we can take for granted that he was, WITH
Seurat, one of the originators of the technique known as pointillism
or divisionism. Upon Seurat's death, he succeeded him as leader of the
Neo-Impressionists.
Lunch was the moment to discover "ANDROUET SUR LE POUCE", a great
sandwich place, big enough to make your lunch. Great choice, good
cheeses, open only for lunch and closed on Sunday. Oh yes, the
address, 49, rue Saint-Roch tel 0142975739. I noticed next to the
Androuet, another place, "La Ferme", 55-57, rue Saint-Roch looking
cute in a wooden chalet style with a lot of products seeming to come
in very fresh from all over the Parisian region. It will try that next
time.
Afternoon, a return to the New Guimet museum, which I visited on my
last daytrip but I completed it now with the temporary exhibition,
"L'Asie des Steppes d'Alexandre le Grand à Gengis Khan.". For those
who are interested, it is a superb reconstitution of the world of
steppes, from Western Asia towards Mongolia to the east. Four spaces
reunite a bout 60 treasures of the Ermitage museum of
Saint-Petersburg, mingled with a few works of the "Beagram treasure"
coming from Afghanistan (at least this will not be destroyed!) and
some mints from the musee Guimet. I took the opportunity to revisit
some parts of the museum that I did pass very quickly last time, like
the Korean section and a part of the Chinese section. You should know
that the New Guimet museum is enormous, huge and can be compared in
complexity to the Louvre, smaller of course but not that small.
At that point my feet couldn't drag me anymore! It was 17.00, and I
was good to be transported on a wheelchair! We are not getting any
youngerJ. But I dragged my feet to the place du Trocadero to have my
day view of the Eiffel tower from the Chaillot terrace. Down to the
pont de Iena and loiter along the Seine up top the pont de l'Alma.
18.00 hours. It was getting cold and rainy (had fine weather all day),
so it was time for a good cappuccino in a brasserie on the place de
l'Alma, waiting for Annie to come back from her shopping (see my
shopping articles on my web site).
19.30, a new try out and renewed success. The "NABUCHODONOSOR", 6
avenue Bosquet, just over the Alma bridge. There we looked like real
tourists, coming for dinner at 19.30! J But we had to be sure to catch
our train. The place has a lot of charm, a nice décor and very good
and pleasant staff. As there were only two tables occupied at that
time, we were served as members of the family! The food was fresh,
well done and had that little touch of inventiveness we are always
looking for. Nice touches of modernity in the savours. The raviolis de
homard, magret de canard aux figues, filet de rouget au pesto, poelee
de gambas a la provencale, crème de chocolat amer and soufflé chaud au
Grand Marnier, a good bottle of Chateau de Rochemorin
(Graves-Pessac-Leognan) made it a wonderful evening. Count about 220
FF with dessert plus the wine (175 FF). No need to say we ran as mad
(with a full stomach) to catch our train just on time. What a day!!

It's not a quote; it's an Internet hoax. Nostradamus never said
anything like that.
