I have seem them for sale in several places. I've seem them in NYC and in
France. Sorry I can't remember an exact source, but I know they're for

US you can probably get them at Home Depot or somewhere like that. I just
picked a website at random for the company in Germany, so I guess you could
do that to by using AltaVista, Yahoo or Dogpile or some search engine like
that.

If you're in the US and have that numbering scheme, the thing you'll run
into is that in Paris it's rare to find anything over two digits. In the
south of France you can find three digit house numbers to buy but you
really have to look for them.
Given that the US has 4 and 5 digit mainly, you either give up or piece
something together which doesn't look quite right.

This may be true in many places in the US, but not all; there are no
numbers over 2 digits on my street, for example, & it's not the shortest
one around here.

Many (many) years ago I stayed in a motel in Desert Hot Springs. The
street number had five digits but there were only four extant buildings
on it. It has stayed with me as epitomising the (attractive) American
spirit of optimism.

Having failed to find this style of house number in French hardware
store I found an article in an English magazine which gave me an address
in the UK to order from which I successfully did. This article said that
French householders buy these blue and white plates from their local
Mairie, not from shops.
I'll look out the address of my supplier for you (although I don't know
what country you're in) and mail again with it.

There is a shop in Paris that makes these signs. I bought from him in
the past and the plate is terrific. It now adorns the front of my home. He
says he does not ship overseas; but he said it would take a week to produce
the sign and he did it in three days.

looked if I were in Paris.

If they ship accross the ocean, then I hope you can
find the address and post it.
4. Thanks Robert P. for the link to the German shop. I
looked at all their number plates, and saw a few with
good colors (a close match to the Parisian colors),
but none of their fonts looked right. The serifs on
the digit "1" were not right. I want an exact replica.
5. The number I want is "11" (eleven). Only two digits.
6. Only a minority of US street numbers are more than three
digits long. Only a tiny minority of those are five
digits long or longer. But it is possible. Named roads
can be very very long in the states.
Gratuitous trivia:
In the sewers of Paris, each house's sewer pipe is labeled
with a blue and white enameled number, just like the one over
the door up at street level. Each sewer street is also
labeled, just like the "rue" above it.

Two points:
If I were you, I would call and see if their policy has changed. After
all, that policy is several years old. In addition, the owner at the time I
bought was elderly and ownership may have changed (along with the policy).
I would have helped if you had been more definite as to where you actually
are, rather than "for use on a house far from Paris".

in the9th arr.. I just wrote about this shop in my introduction

the amazing prints of art works for sale in the gift shop. They had
HUGE reproductions -- much bigger than I have seen anywhere else in the world.

What do you mean, "slightly off target"? Poster shops are all over
Paris, no problem to find them, surely not the D'Orsay one, well
furnished but it stays a modern impersonal gift shop.. Everybody has
seen some once. But the one i'm talking about, not many have seen and
is a living witness of beautiful old fashioned shops in old Art
nouveau galleries and selling not only posters but a lot of other
unusual stuff. Remember, the Passage Jouffroy". The hotel Chopin is
located in this passage.
