Southern Island of New Zealand is depicted in this very professionally
made painting by the renowned New Zealand artist Harry Smith in 1977.
His love for the mountains of the Rangitata River area is seen in this
extremely well composed work. The spirit of the Alma mountain and of
the Rangitata River directly flows into the viewer.
The painting in the pristine condition will look just right in your
study room. It measures 11½" × 14½" with the frame in pristine
condition 2" in width.

The composition doesn't seem to work well. It's like there is a top
painting and a bottom painting, with an open middle. There is no
unification into a single painting. There is no pattern that moves your
eyes around and then back into the center. Plus there is no reflection
of the color of the mountains in the water - which doesn't make any
sense.
And, the size is very small. With a 2 inch fame, that would mean the
painting is 8"x10". It's really more a thumbnail sketch in oil than a
grand painting. And there is no indication of whether it's on fine
linen canvas, on masonite panel, or cheap cotton canvas. I'm guessing
masonite panel from the look.
But at least it appears to be an original oil painting, not a mass
produced print. I would always opt for an original painting rather than
a print.
I don't think it's a very good painting at all. Aren't you glad you
advertised here?
