Windstar Chef Wins Award In Bacardi Bartender & Chef Cruise
Competition
Chef Daryl Neamtu wins in the vegetarian culinary category

Seattle, WA, January 24, 2007
Windstar Cruises’ Chef Daryl Neamtu has won the 2nd Annual BACARDI
Bartender & Chef Cruise Competition. His winning vegetarian recipe of
beluga lentil and basmati rice cake with sautéed spinach and citrus
poached carrots in a Bombay Sapphire gin butter sauce will soon be
served on board all three Windstar ships.
We congratulate Daryl for his initiative in creating such an inventive
and delicious vegetarian recipe,” says Diane Moore, Windstar’s vice
president of marketing and sales. “His creativity is an asset to the
company and I am sure our guests’ palates will appreciate his superb
skills.”
Chef Neamtu will travel to Miami for an awards gala on March 1 at The
Ritz-Carlton Coconut Grove to be recognized for his achievement. He
will receive a $500 cash scholarship for independent study from the
Marine Hotel Association which sponsors the contest in cooperation
with Bacardi Global Brands Ltd.
The competition encourages cruise and ferry line chefs and bartenders
to create new cocktails and entrées using Bacardi’s line of products.
Chef Neamtu’s winning vegetarian recipe was chosen out of hundreds of
entries by Johnson & Wales University, the official culinary judges
for the competition.
Since 1994, Windstar Cruises has partnered with acclaimed celebrity
chef Joachim Splichal of the Patina Group. Splichal recently created
100 new Signature Cuisine recipes for Windstar bringing the total to
over 380 innovative recipes for all three ships. The Restaurant is an
inviting environment where guests dine when and with whom they wish in
a single, open-seating with place settings of elegant Rosenthal china
and Riedel stemware.
Degrees, Wind Surf’s alternative restaurant, features a steak house
menu created by Chef Joachim Splichal four nights a week and menus
from Northern Italy, France and Indonesia other evenings. Degrees has
been redecorated with a new burgundy color scheme, Rosenthal china and
Schott Zwiesel stemware. Reservations are required but there is no
additional charge to dine at Degrees.
Windstar’s commitment to providing the most casually elegant,
enriching and luxurious cruise vacation has been rewarded with
accolades from the most prestigious names in travel. In 2006, the
line enjoyed recognition as a “Top Ten Small Ship Cruise Line” by
Travel + Leisure, and all three ships were lauded among “The World’s
Best Small Ships” by Condé Nast Traveler’s readers.
