This probably is not the correct discussion group to ask, but since we
are planning on staying in Galveston for a few days before our cruise on
the NCL Sea, I felt it is O.K. to inquire if anyone knows of nice places
to stay at in Galveston? I have already looked at different websites,
but I would like some personal opinions as to hotels, motels, B&B s,
thanks in advance for any imput....alice (i think it will be more fun
to stay in Galveston, than in Houston before the ship takes off)

If you dot want 100% pampering, but want a nice place to relax and do what
you want, the Victorian Condotel is nice. It is on the seawall across a
street from the beach. If you want to be right on the beach there is a
similar condo call the seascape a few miles farther out. Nice, but more
secluded from the restaurants etc. (5-6minutes)All have balcony, mini
kitchen, living room, and bedroom. Reasonable prices. Only thing lacking is
that they dont have dining...but then again who wants hotel dining you will
get all kinds of food on the cruise. Plenty of places to eat in Galveston,
not too much traffic or congestion either.

We have fun in Galveston, but not as much as a Cruise. Then again I would
do Galveston in a heart beat before I would even think of going to South
Beach Miami again.

One thing to note...dont expect Galveston to have pretty blue water...try
something more like muddy sandy water. The historical sights and such are
nice...and if you just want the beach it is nice too.

As for all the way...try the SanLuis Hotel and Conference Center.

There is a hotel called "The Flagship" - it's not the most luxurious
hotel (not that there are a lot of them in Galveston) but what I like
about it is that it is over the water. It is built on a pier over the
water. Also has a place to fish off the end of the pier for guests.

There are a couple of fishing piers that rent equipment and you can
fish all night if you wish.

Another thought is that Houston has some very reasonable hotel rates,
lets face it, Houston isn't the tourist capital of Texas and yet it is
large enough to have all the major chains - Can't Beat Friday Rates
and whatever else are usually available at several Marriotts, Hiltons
& Doubletrees in the area.

Yes, Galveston would be the place to stay. We've stayed at two hotels in
Galveston in years past and have been very pleased with each. There's the
Hotel Galvez, the grand old hotel right on the ocean. It's probably about a
mile from the cruise ship terminal. And then there's the Tremont Hotel,
right on the historic main street in Galveston about two blocks from the
terminal. Both are historic properties that have been recently been
remodeled into first class hotels. They are probably the two most popular
and best in Galveston.

FYI,

It is more than a mile from the Barbours Cut terminal. The terminal that NCL
Leaves from is in Houston at the Ship Channel. It will take about 30-45
minutes from Galveston to the terminal. Traffic should not be a
worry...people will be going into Galveston on Sat.,,,not leaving. Carnivals
4 & 5 days will be leaving from Galveston as do the Stella Solaris I
believe.

You might like to visit Moody Gardens - they have a tropical rainforest
enclosed in a pyramid, an I-Max theater, a beautiful man made beach and
other things. It's not very far from the sea wall.

Opps, - I might have given you some bad advice. I was thinking you were
leaving from the Galveston Cruise Terminal. If I had read your post a little
more carefully, I would have known that. Sorry.
