If you go to Portland, a walk around the Old Port is definitely required.
Cobblestone streets, locally owned shops, and little cafes! The Public
Market is on the other side of Congress Street, so it can be easy to miss,
but it's a real treat. Lots of Maine-made merchandise, locally grown foods,
and fresh fish!

Has anyone been to the mansions of Newport from the Newport cruise
pier? The ship offers a few mansion tours but we're not sure we want
to take the ship's tour; is there any easy, economical way to get from
the pier to the mansion district? Understand that there are many
mansions; don't want to tour all of them, maybe just a few, including
Breakers. Any suggestions?

>The Breakers is a must!! I also recommend the Marble House and Rose Cliff. If
you have just a day, one or two mansions is about all you can see. There are
many tours offered near the dock at Newport. We took a trolly tour of the whole
town, and it was great. There is a visitors information center near the place
where you tender in, and all kinds of tours can be gotten there. Ejnoy! We are
doing the brilliance of the Seas oct 12, but no Newport:( We did Newport last
Oct on the QE2. I also live only about 70 miles from Newport, so I can visit
often, It is a great place!
