You didn't say when your anniversary is and that can really make a
determination on the ships that are available to the Caribbean. Many ships
during the summer months are in Alaska or Europe. Also, have you cruised
before? What did you like or dislike about your last cruise?
I would look at these cruise lines in this order 1. Celebrity for food,
relaxation, dinner music, a few lectures, wine tasting--more upscale
activities. 2. Norwegian Cruise Line for the non-pushiness of Carnival,
and a more relaxed environment--food, okay, floor shows and actual Broadway
shows.
3. Holland America-Generally an "older" clientele, but not always while in
the Caribbean. Food okay, good music, and a "no-tipping" policy--even
though they won't turn them down!
If it were me, I think I'd look at a suite on the NCL Norway since their
rates are generally pretty low. It's a beautiful "Old-Gal" of a ship and
you can almost go back in time on her. She travels to the Eastern Caribbean
and if you like to "shop" that is a great itinerary, and there are several
days at sea!
Have fun, and I hope that this has been of some help to
you...............Monica

Monica,
<sigh>
Holland America's tipping policy is no different from any of the other
popular cruise lines. It is a "no tipping required" policy, which is very
different from a "no tipping" policy. All the other cruise lines' tipping
policy is also a "no tipping required" policy.

ABsolutely the best advice I can give you is to find a good local travel
agent who is a CLIA Accredited Cruise Counselor (look for the diploma on
the wall!) Go in and talk to the agent and tell her about yourself and
what you are looking for and let her make some suggestions. Take the
brochures she offers you (she should offer more than one!) home and read
them through cover to cover, then go back to the TA and ask whatever
questions have occurred to you. The TA should be willing to spend time
with you and help you make your decisions ... this is what the commission
she will get when you book covers! (If the TA is not helpful, vote with
your feet and find another one.) This is the best way to learn about
cruising and decide what is the best cruise for YOU ... the cruise I loved
might not be the one for you.
You can also find a lot of background information on the web. For
starters go to my page
http://www.elite.net/~thehalls/cruising.html
and just start following links. Especially note the ones marked as good
for beginners.
I hope you are able to find a GREAT cruise!!

BTW--had a blast on the Leeward. You were right, she did need a little
sprucing up though. Also, the talk now is that NCL is in negotiations to
purchase the ship or re-sign for another few years------That came straight
from the mouth of the casino manager---and you know how accurate their info
is!!!!!<vbg>.......Monica

Couldn't have agreed with you more a suite on the SS Norway is excellent value for money
Eric<---survives easily without the Carnival "fun"

It all boils down to a personal choice. I am mid thirties; single father.
Just got back from our first cruise (father/son) and have already booked
another cruise for next year - on the same cruise line. Won't mention which
to try to sway - as I said, you just have to decide yourself.
There are merits I guess to some of the remarks relating to the various
lines but it is still largely a matter of personal choice.
I will say that the line we went on was not a roudy, party ship. Ages were
mixed and was glad to see a number of people in my age.
Have fun!
