I agree with you Annie, better be safe than sorry..by November, the flu may

NEED smaller right now! ;-) It is supposed to sail out of Houston/Galveston
which means no air fare for us.(Thank God!) Also family time constraints
made it the one to take. Hopefully the ship already will be decorated for

Robert, I hope Ike did not treat you too rough. My oldest son lives on
Clear Lake and he did not evacuate. He was without electricity for 48
hours. My youngest lives about 10 minutes away from you and he lost
power for 5 days. Here in Louisiana, we had wind gusts of 50 mph and we
lost a few trees. We did not lose electricity, but thousands of our
neighbors did.

So, when is your next cruise?

Hi Robert!
So good to hear from you! I've missed your posts here! We returned in mid
September from a seven day trip to Poland, Hungary, Slovakia and Czech
Republic followed by a seven day river cruise up the Danube from Budapest to
Prague. I'll take a real cruise ship any day...they don't spoil you enough
on river cruises. ;-) But it did give us a chance to see quite a few
European cities including Vienna, where we attended a lovely concert at the
opera house..

I hope that Ike was kinder to you than he was to others...The pictures of
the Houston/Galveston area were absolutely horrible and CNN on the river
cruise really did an overkill job scaring us... We thought we would have no
home to come back to the way that they went on about it..and all we got was
some rain and the poor refugees who had to escape...thank heavens for text
messages from our family telling us that all was fine..But you are right
there... I'm glad that you are okay and hope that your home was safe and
untouched.
Thanks for the good wishes! When are you going to join us on a cruise?
Don't be a stranger and pop in more often!

We were right in the middle of Ike. It passed about 20 miles away......
wind stayed at about 75mph for hours. A red oak tree about 35 years old
fell on the corner of the house. I just got a contractor to start work on
it yesterday. Several of our neighbors had many thousands of dollars in
damages from fallen trees. We were without power, phone, internet, hot
water for 10 days. What a joy it was when the power came back on. Many
people aren't aware of this, but the deductible for damages from storms like
this is 2% so none of the repair work is covered by insurance. There goes
the money for a great cruise.

We'll cruise again but don't know when. We did squeeze on in around last
April. In about 10 days we are going to Vegas for 4 days, and we just came
back from a trip to CT to see family, so we aren't too deprived.

I still see a lot of familiar names on RTC so its good to check in now and
again. I'll be off and on until we get serious about another cruise.

All the best to you,

Regards, Robert

Oh, Robert,
I am so sorry that you suffered so much damage! And being without power for
TEN days must have been horrible...I can imagine the joy when it finally
came back on. No, I didn't know that the deductible for storm damage was
only 2%. Wonder if this is the same with all insurance companies...we are
covered by State Farm. To get a contractor to finally come out so long
afterwards must have been very taxing, too.

I'm glad that you were able to get a cruise in last April and I envy your
going to Vegas...we have not been there for years...I hope you win a huge
jackpot that covers your contractor's bill and then some!

Take care and as I said before, don't be a stranger here!
Best to you always,

No that would be bad! Well....when I go home this week for turkey day
I'm floating the various cruise proposals to Mom, which are:

1. Go away the week of my folks' anniversary (Jan 6)
2. Go away the week of the inauguration (and/or rent out my condo for
lots of money, lol...)
3. Go on the group cruise on Celebrity...

It's going to be either 1 or 3 I think. She is already going to Florida
for a month in late Feb, so I'm thinking either 1 or 3, but....honestly
I could do both no problem!
