We are trying to decide on where to vacation in the Caribbean. We will
probably rent a large villa where we will have two toddlers, but Grandma and
Grandpa along to babysit. We enjoy snorkeling, hiking, golf, dining, and
shopping. We are looking for a place with nice swimming beaches, friendly
people, and beautiful and diverse geography with a definite Caribbean feel
to it (as opposed to spanish or mexican feel).

We have kind of focused in on St. Croix, St. Lucia, and St. Marin/Maarten.
Any tips/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

We vacationed recently in the British Virgin Islands and loved the villa
rental. There are about fifty villas scattered all over the island, some on the
beach, others higher up on the hill with great views, and most with private
swimming pools. We found details on the web site:
http://www.caribbeans.com/2villas/2villas.htm

Email if you have any questions. The beaches in Virgin Gorda were awesome!

Hi Jeff,

Have you considered an all-inclusive yacht charter? This way you have
access to more than one island, lots of beaches and activities for the whole
family to enjoy! This type of vacation is great for families. Children, as
well as adults, have so much to keep them occupied and, in the worst case
scenario, most boats do have videos also... ;-)

Have fun in the islands!

We have gone to the Allegro resorts in Cozumel and Playa del Carmen. Playa
has golf, both have snorkeling and diving. They are all inclusive, the two
specialty restaurants are very good, the buffet is good to very good. Great
relaxing feeling, shows every night. Very reasonable prices.
This year we are trying Punta Cana in Dominican Republic, we have heard good
things.
Enjoy.

Consider Virgin Gorda in the British Virgin Islands.

Virgin Gorda's Mahoe Bay has a great enclave of villas on a beautiful beach
with reefs just offshore so little or no waves are present most of the time.
See www.b-v-i.com/BeachCoast/

For family activities, see "Families in Paradise" at
www.b-v-i.com/Vacations/families.htm

To take toddlers and grandparents on a week long yacht cruise would require
extra precautions, unless the whole family was well-versed in boat usage.

I recently came back from a wedding in Jamaica and everyone stayed in
the villas at the Half Moon Resort. I'm not sure if you considered
Jamaica, but it was a great time for everyone of all ages. They have
horseback riding, pools, beaches and each villa has its own pool area,
butler, maid and cook. It is expensive, but we thought it was worth
every penny.

It doesnt get mentioned alot here but how about freeport / grand
bahama island? They have done quite a bit of tourism development
lately and when I was there (2 years ago) we had a blast! Casinos,
great snorkeling, great food, great nightlife (touristy nightlife),
shopping... and best of all its still a bargain when you compare to
other islands in the bahamas.

However, Golfing is not available in the BVI.
