Well, the answer is really quite simple. The Merriam-Webster dictionary
defines Stewardess as "a woman who performs the duties of a steward;
especially : one who attends passengers (as on an airplane)". So one could
have stewardess and steward or simply "flight attendant". Simplicity rules.
