> Hi all. We are travelling to the USA from canada at the end of the
> month. With the new rules regarding no carry ons i was wondering what
> everyone is using to hold all their necessities. Things like
> wallets, travel documents, camera, Ipods, headphones, medications
> glasses and all such items. for Women they say small purses are ok
> but this stuff does not fit in a small bag. just curious.
The restrictions were originally announced as temporary. The
Transportation Minister is making a speech this afternoon, and it is
anticipated that he will announce changes to the inspection requirements.
Cross your fingers that the restrictions will be relaxed.
Other than that, carry something like a small purse. The allowance isn't
gender-specific. You can carry some things in your coat pocket, and if
you have a laptop, carry some of those items in the pockets of the laptop
case, since laptops are allowed aboard.
From the CATSA web site:
"U.S.A. bound passengers are permitted zero carry-on bags effective
immediately and lasting for several days. Passengers travelling within
Canada are still permitted two carry-on bags (although to make the
screening process most efficient, fewer carry-on items is preferred).
These rules will be strictly enforced during this period. There will be
no flexibility.
Carry-on bag means items to which a passenger has access to during a
flight, but does NOT include personal items such as medication or medical
devices, small purses, cameras, coats, items for care of infants, laptop
computers, crutches, canes, walkers, containers carrying life sustaining
items, a special needs item, musical instruments, or diplomatic or
consular bags."

Check the above site to see what changes there might have been just
before you fly.
yes i hope they change the rules . I do not take a laptop and a small
purse is a hard thing to judge . My idea of a small purse can be very
different from securities. There are so many sizes to purses. I am
also diabetic and need to carry a blood monitor . They need to allow
some sort of a bag . My husband does not carry a laptop either but
needs medication as well .Hard to carry all of it in a pocket . They
need to give size dimentions allowed
