I'm thinking about signing up to some company that provides courier
flights on the Internet. The question is just: Which one? Does anyone
have a clue which one is the best and why? I'm only interested in
flights departing from London. The next flight I'd like to be on would
be to Central America in about a month from now. Are there any courier
flights to, say, Costa Rica and how much would you expect to pay for
such a flight?

I would have to guess the chance of a courier flight from London to Costa
Rica is pretty close to zero.

And you would be right. However, British Airways' courier flights
service (don't remember the phone number, and they're not on the web,
but if you call a BA travel store they'll be able to give you the right
phone number) will sell you a reasonably-priced add-on fare for an
onward flight from one of their destinations to an end destination they
don't serve. They certainly used to offer courier flights from London to
Miami; it may well be possible to get an onward flight to Costa Rica
through them. In my experience (and admittedly it's almost four years
since I used their service, though I've friends who've used it much more
recently than that), their round-trip fares to US cities offer very
considerable savings over consolidator fares, so a courier round trip to
Miami and a connecting flight may well save you enough money to be worth
the effort.

They allow one checked suitcase weighing up to 23kgs, IIRC, and one
carry-on. Formalities at Heathrow and the destination airport are
straightforward.
