Hello, there.

I would appreciate pointers to consolidators or reliable bucket shops where
you could get discounted tickets to Europe for flights originating in
Portland, OR, Seattle, or in worst case SFO.

Thanks in advance.

Leo.

Strange I was about to post an almost identical enquiry (except for me
SFO is best case).

You may want to check out the deal by Coast Savings bank. Open and
maintain $1000 in a checking account and you can get a certificate
for travel to Europe. The certificate costs $7.5 and allows RT
travel to select Europe destinations for $425 to $600 (plus tax).
There are many blackout dates. Frequent flier miles are awarded for
Northwest (the certificate is good for Nothwest/KLM). Travel must
originate and end in California. Call 1-800-953-7283 for more
details.

That's not a good deal at all! (in my opinion) Those prices (with
blackout dates) are around the same as a normal discount travel agency
would have, with no certificates, opening bank accounts, etc. I'm in L.A.
and have been calling around for prices RT to London. Virgin Atlantic
apparently has a deal $458 RT, with some restrrictions. I got the 6 month
stay ticket I needed for $560. The travel agencies and consolidaters down
here that I have worked with in the past and have great prices are AJA
Travel (In Colorado) at 1-800-279-0135, a place called something like
Discount Travel Network at 1-800-926-4400, a consolidater (I forget the
name) at 1-800-576-7770. AJA Travel is my regular travel agency, and I
usually call around to all the places listed in the Sunday paper and on
the consolidater lists here on this newsgroup (where, I must say, I have
*not* found impressive prices at all- I don't know...), and then I call
AJA with the best fare I found and they usually are able to better it.
One tip for calling for the best fare; you must ask for "the cheapest"
fare and then ask about restrictions. If you are vague at all about "the
cheapest" part, apparently they have the liberty of finding a fare which
better suits *their* needs. I don't think many would do this, because it
loses business, I have just read about this. If you tell them you are a
cheapskate, they will bust their ass to beat the other places you call,
to get your business. I always call alot of places and find that even
with consolidaters, prices vary tremendously. Good luck!
