Having taken a vacation from computer use throughout most of this
summer, it seems I missed out on a lot of unfortunate goings-on
regarding spoilers and potential breaches of Mainframe's property
security. I can judge only by what I managed to dig up via
DejaNews, but the most serious incident seemed to have occurred when
some tard impersonated Bob Forward and began distributing phony
spoilers to the four winds.... resulting in the *real* Bob wisely
deciding to sever most internet communication to protect his good
name.

Now, things like this, and the three or so premature script-postings
of season 2, made a lot of people angry.... but I'm worried about
what it might do to Hasbro and Mainframe. There were all sorts of
vague rumblings and rumors about how displeased they were about the
old plot leaks, and I'm *still* not sure about what happened with
Transcon. So, let's just pretend that somebody were to get hold of
all the secret season 3 information, and new toy stuff, and what
have you, and published it.

Could this get somebody fired? If so, who--Bob'n'Larry, the script
writers, the publicists, others? Could it actually get the show
*cancelled*? I was originally going to crosspost this message to
a.t.t., until I realized that the 3 die-hard spammers (who represent
the sum total of this over-feared "invasion" people still seem to
care about) have begun to actually read and reply to standard
threads..... didn't want to give them any ideas.

Here's the sorry, sordid story:

Somehow, word reached the group that the episode "Dark Glass" had been
canned, to be replaced with another script. Immediately people began
clamoring to see the script to "Dark Glass". Men in Black saw an
opportunity and took it; they contacted Christy Marx (the script's writer)
and asked for permission to distribute the script at the then-upcoming
TransCon III. She asked Larry D., who said okay, assuming that MIB would
have also cleared this with Hasbro and/or Mainframe. Larry was also
unaware at this point that the script would be distributed *before* Season
3 had aired, though he assumed otherwise.

MIB then announced they would be distributing the script, creating
another uproar among those who wanted to remain unspoiled for season 3.
MIB promised that precautions would be taken (a legal non-disclosure form
to be signed by everyone who recieved a script) but there were a LOT of
doubters that it wouldn't find its way onto the Internet as soon as the
convention was over, creating worry over both spoilers and consequences
from Hasbro.

Turns out MIB *didn't* clear it with the bigwigs, however. And when
Mainframe found out, they clamped down -- hard. No "Dark Glass" script
for TransCon or anywhere else. No more scripts period, ever.

Some people inexplicably blame the whole snafu on the fans who
complained about the script being released before the season had aired.
Never mind that such a release would be VERY much against Hasbro and
Mainframe's best interests, regardless of the fans' positions on the
matter. Me, I blame people who couldn't have a little bit of patience and
just wait for an appropriate time...

I also blame a very inconsiderate Men in Black, who had the audacity to
laugh in our faces when we asked that they respect the fans who wished
to remain unspoiled. If that's the way they do business....
