LEGO Enterprise, parts replacement

Hi! I'd like to know if anyone has built a LEGO model of the Star Trek
Enterprise, whether it is from the original series, movies, TNG,
whatever. I built my own and I want to see what others have done.

Also, one of the recent threads said that you can buy pieces from
LEGO, but people apparently have been having problems... Well, I got 2
Spyrius-type blue space windshields for free, telling LEGO Consumer
Affairs that I could no longer use mine (my brother was actually using
them), and they didn't ask any questions, they just sent the parts. I
did it again, and I was only charged $2 for both windshields. So you
could try to get replacement parts like this by calling Consumer Affairs
(I only have an old number, so you'll have yo find it in the catalogs;
at least one is an 800 number).
Try to be friendly; I think I got the first 2 free because the lady felt
sorry for me!

It's not a scale model of the Enterprise-D, is it? Someone claimed to
have built one last summer...but it was a bad hoax. (To be to scale, it
definately wouldn't fit in a spare bedroom as this person claimed. I'm
surprised so many people actually believed it.)

Well, I don't feel sorry for you. What you did is called fraud, or you could
call it stealing, if you like.
Now, of course, someone from TLG will have read your post, and they can
clamp down on freeloading boneheads.
And some people wonder why LEGO are so expensive...

Something similar happened to me.
I had just finished an exaustive 6-hour inventory count of all my
680 minifigs. Then I found out something awful--I was missing two
classic smileys, one pair of black pants, and a Dragon Master
Cape!!
So, since Todd Lehman wasn't doing a parts auction, I called
1-800-HIA-LEGO, and a woman answered. I said, "Hello, I am
wondering: Do you sell minifigure parts, like legs, heads,
hats...?"
"Yes we do!" came the reply.
"Well, I've just finished taking an inventory of all my LEGO
people, and I found I am missing two heads, one pair of legs, and
a fabric cape with a dragon design on it. Can I buy
replacements?" I inquired.
"Well, what sets did the pieces come from?"
"Ummm...lots of sets, I suppose. I think the cape came from Dark
Dragon's Den...the set number escapes me. And that set also came
with black legs. I don't know about the heads though," I said to
her.
"Well, heads can only be bought with a torso, because they're
already
attached in the factory."
I for some reason didn't mention the Time Cruiser's robot in
Mystic Mountain Time Lab, who has a 'droid head with no torso.
Not that I cared that much.
"Oh, that's too bad. Well, I guess, since I want to own an even
amount of torsos, heads, and legs, I shouldn't...well, I--just a
second, lemmee think about this."
"Okay. Would you like call us back when you decide?"
But my decision had been made. It's better to have too many than
not enough.
"I've decided. Can I buy two plain whate torsos with plain
smiling heads?"
"I would have to know what set it comes from."
"Ummm... I dunno. Maybe some Basic or Freeestyle set?"
"I really have to know what set they come from, sir," stated she
annoyedly.
"Uhhh..."
"Okay, I'll look for a set with a plain white toso with a plain
head. Hold on for a sec."
"Okay, thanks."
After a substantial amount of waiting, she returned.
"Alright, I found one."
She never said which set.
"Great! Thanks a lot! How much will that cost?"
"Normally it's 10¢ for a pair of legs or any other piece, and 75$
for a torso w/head unit, with a flat shipping cost of $3.00."
"Okay, how'll I pay for that?"
"Well, I'm gonna go ahead and pass this on to you for free.
Just...just becuase I want to, so what's yor address?"
I recited my address to the attentive ears of the Consumer Service
Rep.
"Okay, it should be there in 4 to 6 weeks."
"Thanks so much!!" I exclaimed.
"Thank YOU, sir. Good-bye."
"Thanks again. Buh-bye."
It wasn't my fault she wanted to give me 6 free LEGO Pieces. Who
am I to refuse? I didn't want to get into a "No I insist." "No
*I* insist!!" argument. I was willing to, and certainly expected
to, pay. I don't know if it was the case with esp...@erols.com,
but it is a possibility. If he said, "Hi, I just bought a Saucer
Centurion, and I swear, neither windshield was there!", when in
reality he doesn't even own one, I would call that stealing. As
it is, I believe the blame should be placed on the rep who gave it
to him for free. Although I don't know what to think of his
saying he "couldn't use them anymore", that sounded a little
dishonest.
In case anyone gets mad at me for the conversation I described
above, consider the following:
I went to a donut shop with my sister a while ago. She is
generally considered to be quite attractive. Apparently, the
donut guy thought so, and saying "I giva thrree mora donuts to dé
pretty lįdy!", gave us three blueberry donuts for free. I don't
think it's mine or my sister's fault that he decided to give us
free donuts. Just as I don't think it is my fault that the LEGO
rep. gave me six pieces for free.

Boy, aren't you brilliant. It's people like you who risk ruining TLG's
excellent replacement parts service for people who actually need it.
You don't need to abuse the service to get pieces you need -- you can
trade with people here for parts, or you can buy them in sales that
happen from time to time. If the piece is still available in a current
set, you can buy multiple copies of the set to get the pieces you want
and sell or trade the remainder.

So, can you just order idividual pieces? I was under the impression
that you could not. I've got several models I'd love to build, but
they depend on parts that I don't have. Rather than buying three more
Neptune Discovery Labs for the large blue half-arches, I wish I could
call up Shop at Home and order them. But I won't do it if the only
way to get them is by lying. How would you specify which parts, too?
Are there standard piece ID numbers that are listed somewhere external
to LEGO? Anyone know?

When you are ordering replacement parts, you usually specify the
set number and step the part is used in. When I need to replace lost
pieces (I buy many sets used, and occasionally do no have the
missing part in stock, despite having 40,000 pieces not in sets)
I always make a list with the sets in numerical order, and the
page and step number where the part is used.
I've often told Consumer Affairs that I was restoring a set bought used,
and they were most helpful. In fact, I think Lego Consumer Affairs is one
of teh best run consumer affairs departartments of any company I've dealt
with.

This is a personal grip of mine about lego. has any body anywhere
thought about setting up a lego exchange or a 2nd hand part business.
There is a lego catalog I saw it at Legoland Windsor. but when I
phoned Lego Uk with the part to order they denied all knowledge of
it. Lego Uk used to sell individual parts but they had a staff
reorganisation and now they only give :-) you the parts if your
desperate enough.
I agree lying is not a good way to get lego parts :-(

I was originally thinking of using my web site as a non-commercial
place of LEGO exchange, either for sets or pieces (probably both).
I figured I could use my digital camera to take pictures of individual
parts and have a "gallery" sort of thing where under each piece users
could either offer for sale, ask to buy, or just look to see what a
specific piece looks like. It could be supported by a weekly update
listing which new pieces have been added or removed/sold, so people
could easily see if something they like has been added.
With enough support from users on RTL, this could easily be a useful
thing. If everyone else is like me, we all have buckets upon buckets
of pieces we don't need, and a good-sized "want list" of ones we'd
love to get. It's just hard to find the person who has what you want
and needs what you have.
Perhaps later this summer I could get to work on writing some sort of
script which could handle this sort of thing. In the meantime, I'd
have to say that Todd's auctions are probably about the best way out
there to get what you need. A site like that could never replace the
auctions, but it *would* be better for the buyer since there would be
no bidding, just a "I have these pieces for sale for <price> or for
trade for <link to list of Bob's pieces>" ... the details would all
have to be worked out and extensively tested but hey, who knows.

No, they don't sell individual pieces. Consumer Affairs will give you
replacement parts at a nominal cost, but they certainly don't sell things
in bulk and it would be dishonest to abuse their service for that purpose.

I just bought 5 Neptune Discovery Labs and I might buy 3 more. I already
have plenty of trans-dark-blue quarter-domes and dome side walls, so most
if not all of these will be for sale in AucZILLA IV. The quarter-domes are
coming from the Exploriens Android Base set, which I need for the white
plates.

I think what most people usually do is send in a drawing or a melted or
cracked part to Consumer Affairs. There is some kind of numbering system
but I don't know how accurate it is because numbers on pieces change once
in a while, and some numbers are re-used.

Actually, I did tell them that the pieces were not lost, but I didn't
tell that part because I then had to pay for them... I was trying to be
nice to LEGO and make it seem like they were generous to give them
away... But anyway, that it the point, the LEGO people may not like all
of us anyway, and so who cares...
I know I should have bought the pieces, but they only had the orange one
for sale when I asked for these. I did also ask if they sold individual
pieces, and they said no, but then asked why I needed them and I
answered truthfully, and they sent them anyway.
Sorry if I offended anyone, but I never actually lied, I just
embellished the facts with a slightly upset voice :-) (Actually, I did,
but I was charged anyway.)

Every time I've called it has been a matter of have your instructions in
hand and give set# and page where it was found.(Exception was the dragons
tale--I did need the se number but I didn't have to give the page number.
