Tell your dad they arn't hard to find. Go to any Wal Mart, TRU, K-Mart, or
wherever. Lego shouldn't be bought to invest. As somebody aid before, go to
the stockmarket for that. Lego is a toy, play with it. If he bought them for
you in the first place, he should definitly go with it, because selling them to
anybody else wouldn't really replenish his money, unless he went to ebay. No
fair.

The Rec.Toys.Lego:"You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and
villainy."
They gave us two astromechs and no threepio! "It wasn't my fault sir. Please
don't deactivate me! That meddling srap pile! He tricked me."

Josh, the kid's dad didn't buy them as an investment, he bought them for
the kid *now* in case they were hard to find when the kid finally had
the money to buy them for himself.
I think it's refreshing that dad is expecting his child to pay for
his own toys instead of just giving him everything he wants.
And that seems to be reflected in the kid's attitude -- looking forward
to buying them from dad, and not griping about how "unfair" it all is.

Depends where you are. Here in Vermont, there simply are NONE. I found an
X-wing at TRU on "the big night", and they had some EP1 sets, but I'm sure
they're gone now. The supervisor at TRU said that until that night, they
had only received _one case_ of each set (that's 4,6, or 8 depending on the
casepack), and they vanished in less than an hour. Walmart was a no-go. My
past experience with the local K-mart leads me to believe they would have
none as well, and if they did, the boxes would be trashed and they'd be
shelved behind the Town Jr stuff. Yes, they can be had through S@H, if you
want to wait. It varies by region, and for those of us who live "in the
sticks" these sets can be really tough to get.
Anyone who hoards SW sets at this point is making a financial error - so
many will be saved in the long run that it just won't be profitable. Beter
off with your money in a CD or savings bonds. Future collectibility of an
object is based on how many people _didn't_ buy it the first time around.
You think old baseball cards would be worth anything if everyone had saved
them instead of mauling them in their bicycle spokes? The Beanie market is
already cooling off - I've seen lots of (overpriced) auctions on E-Bay go
unbid, with good reason. A pellet-filled cloth sack just isn't worth more
than $20. Remember the early 80's when classic car prices went through the
roof? $30,000 Ferrari 308s were going for $100,000. Now they're selling
for $30,000. Some of the big (and foolish) players in the market took HUGE
losses on individual cars - one collector taking a multi-million dollar bath
on one SINGLE Ferrari GTO.
Keep on brickin', not hoardin'!

Wow! SOunds like i must be lucky. I live in a small town that for some reason
gets a lot of legos. We still Ep1 sets in stores 3 or 4 days after the big
day,.

Then there are people like Nick Mason who actually drive their GTOs
as they are menat to be driven.

Let the idiots horde them! That way, in 3 or 4 years, when there
are no more to be had in the stores, we can get them nice and
cheap!
