Hi All-

It appears to be official. The official magazine of the Lego Builders
Club, Brick Kicks is DEAD.

It has been replaced with Mania Magazine. I got my first copy a couple
of days ago. Here is the scoop:

It is 16 pages (Brick Kicks was only 8)
It comes out bi-monthly (Brick Kicks was quarterly)
It is mailed by itself (Brick Kicks was mailed in a packet that
included other stuff like occassional posters, graph paper, post cards,
collectors cards, and of course the special offer flyer and envelope)
The Mania Magazine special offer flyer and envelope are stapled
in the middle of the magazine.

Here is the scoop on the Premiere Issue (Winter 94):

Cover: Two human kids in a jungle spying on islanders (human size in
background, barely visible; mini-figs and statue in foreground). P. 2:
Full page "advertisement" for the monorail.

P. 3: Lego story written by 8 year old Andrew Monce, new magazine
announcement, and start of 6 step "Flip N' Build" platypus. (directions
are in upper right hand corner of pages throughout magazine.

P. 4: Andrew Lehner's directions on building a bi-plane.

P. 5: Beginning of 3 page article on islands, promoting Islanders.
Mixed bictures of islanders from the South Pacific and Lego Islanders.

P. 6: Continuation.

P. 7: Continuation. Contest to use 1 to 3 Spyrius sets to build an
origional model (no copying designs from Star Treck, Star WArs or Babylon
5) No prize except you photo published in the magazine.

P. 8-9: Builders pages: Pictures of club member's creations.
Centerfold: Special offers- nothing you havn't seen before in stores and
catalogues. SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT: Lego christmas ornament available
only in Hallmark Stores for a limited time.

P. 10-11: Lego Islanders comic strip.

P. 12-13: Simon Rice's logging truck model directions.

P. 14: Fairly difficult crossword puzzel-you will need to think some!

P. 15: Islanders Maze and Monorail Maze.

P. 16: Advertisement for special offers available through the centerfold.

Happy Building, and my next issue of Mania Magazine will be mailed in
January 1995!

-Matt :)

Ah ha! So when did it die? Recently I noticed that I had only
received one issue of Brick Kicks on my free membership. I wrote in
to complain a couple weeks back, but haven't heard anything yet. Was
there a BK issue after Spring 1994?

I get the impression that it is higher quality that BK. If so,
great. Maybe I'll give my nephews a subscription if it seems
worthwhile.

There was a Summer and a Fall 1994 issue. Call the 1-800 shop at home
number and have them transfer you to the Builders Club folks to
straighten it out. I have consistantly got bad service as far a regular
mailings from the Builders Club, but if you call them they will send you
the back issues if they have them. I have had them send me 3 that I
missed over the years, but there are another 3 or more that they were out
of. And I have doubles of 3 other issues! Hopefully with the new
magazine things will start running smoother there.

Yes, it is better than BK, but it is a lot of the same sort of stuff as
BK. And it looks like we may have seen the end of the posters :(
