The first Bay Area LEGO Get Together was help on Sat. July 20
at a pizza joint in Mountain View California. For our first
attempt we kept the planning to a minimum, we got together, brought
some things to show off, oohed and aahed some, took some pictures
and ate some pizza. Ray Flournoy assembled 13 $3 grab bags from a
variety of discounted sets for people to play with. I have created
what I am sure will soon be a $6.99 Time Cruisers set from my grab
bag. Attendance was more than expected so the thirteen grab
bags proved to be exactly the right number although it may
have been unlucky for Ray as he took a fall and broke his
kneecap immediately afterwards. On the bright side, now that he
is laid up in a cast he may have more time to play with LEGO
(don't send flowers or cards - send LEGO!) Thanks again to
Ray for getting together the grab bags and hope you are doing better!

Things that we would like to improve or add for a future event:
We would like to have a larger (and cooler!) space as there were
20+ attendees! It would be nice to have a white floor or
carpet for those inevitable small pieces that get dropped!
Any suggestions for a new venue are most welcome!
We might try a minitures game or a building contest of some sort
(and would need more time to do it in). We also might try
nametags or some "My name is Mary and I am a technic fan" type
of introduction so we can remember who everyone was!

Some comments from attendees follow:

(high points)

Erik's incredible Roman/Greek temple. (Thanks! -E)

Picking up loose pieces from the floor and
discovering they were really bits of pizza.

"Wow!"

I was really pleased by the great turn-out. I regret that we didn't
take a group picture, though. And next time, we'll need to try to get
Lisa the LEGO Lady as our guest speaker. :^)

I enjoyed seeing the built technic sets, including the super car.

Thanks again,

I very much enjoyed getting to see other adults who had fun with
LEGO, talk about designs, see some cool creations (Matt Claysons
pirate flagship, the redsigned modular Unigyugyi space fleet, a nice
technic tracked vehicle) and see a real live supercar for the
first time.

As soon as I get the second roll of film finished I will get pictures
developed and (if possible) scan them or bring them to the next
event. I think that I got an individual shot of just about everyone
and what they brought to show off although I am not sure if I can
get all the names straight!

I forsee having another, somewhat more ambitious event,
perhaps sometime this fall? Volunteers to help organize are
more that welcome! (It wasn't that hard!) I am looking for
suggestions for a new location (probably somewhere in the south bay).
Or if you just want to be on a mailing list for event announcements,
