I was in a Target today and noticed they do not have a hook or a tag
for JLU single figs.
Have any of you noticed this in your recent toy runs?
This'll bug me if they've discontinued the single figs... they are the
only way to get the accessories.
Thanks!
Tom
I don't know, I don't buy the singles but it seems to me the last time I
was at Target, they had a couple of pegs full of singles. My local
Target hasn't done anything new with JLU in a long time so who knows,
maybe they're behind the curve.
It appears to me they're putting the JLU figures on the discount aisle. It
might not be, but they were all on a secondary aisle in more than one Target
I visited. I also was at a local Walmart, and saw they had gotten in a new 6
pack of the DC Infinite figures, as well as the 2 packs of the Secret Wars
from Marvel. The DC figures were a 6 pack of the Monsieur Mallah and the
Brain with Raven, Robin and a few other Titans in the set. The Secret Wars
sets were Human Torch/Cap, Thunderball/Spiderman, and Wolverine/Klaw, I
think that's correct. They had recently also gotten in a 3 pack of the
Shazam Family as well. Money's been tight lately, so I had to pass on them
all.
I'm going to say my piece here, and then let it go.......
I did my very best to support the JLU line. I bought the figures
religiously, I ordered the exclusives on day one when they became
available on the Mattel Collectors Site. No one loved collecting this
line more than I did.
But I just knew there would be trouble when Mattel branded this a
"collector's line" and decided to go with Target as the "exclusive
retailer". Target has *never* supported their exclusives, doesn't
stock them, promote them or even carry them in their online store. As
soon as this line went exclusive, I started having trouble finding
anything JLU.
Last Christmas, none of my Target stores carried the JLU six packs
"Legends of the League" and "Secret Society". There were major
additions to the line in those packs, like Deadman, Banshee, B'Wana
Beast, Crimson Fox, KGBeast, Atomic Skull and others. Instead, Target
decided to dump the previous year's six packs. The same seems to have
held true all up and down the East Coast if reports on the "Net can be
believed. Some say Mattel was at fault (production problems with
their factory in Japan), some say Target (deliberate dumping of old
product at the expense of not ordering the new). At any rate, both
companies responses in online interviews was lackadaisical and
uncaring.
Then the next group of singles was spotily carried, and the newest 3
packs were ignored altogether in regional Targets. Not being able to
get the Batman Beyond 3 pack was the final straw for me. I'm down
over 16 figures and I'll never be able to catch up. I'll be damned if
I'll pay scalper prices to do so, especially since I suspect some of
them are in-house scalpers.
There currently are no pegs for JLU in any of my local Targets. They
do currently have the newest 6 packs, but I no longer care. I left
them sitting. I did not order the Green Lantern SDCC set from
Matty.com. In fact, I removed that bookmark and all of my JLU toy
related bookmarks from my 'puter. I've also stopped buying Brave and
Bold figures as well. I feel like one great big moron for ever having
supported this line in particular or Mattel in general. Like I said,
I am done being jerked around by these yahoos.
It is sad. I really, really loved this line, but I have better things
to collect. The hobby is supposed to be fun, and Target/Mattel took
all the fun out of it. I'll be damned if I'll be suckered in again.
Sorry for the rant, but I really think Caveat Emptor applies big time
here.
Frogdog has left the building.
I do know that Target is re-aligning their toy aisles, they had 1.5
aisles of action figures for a long time, now they're down to one full
aisle and endcaps, maybe that's what you saw? It just seems strange
that for JLU figures to go Target exclusive, they're going to the
discount aisle.
