VIRGINIA BEACH, VIRGINIA - The 32nd annual Amateur Athletic Union Junior
Olympic Games was held in the Hampton Roads area from July 26th-August
8th. 25 sports and over 12,000 athletes competed in the events spread
out over the two week period. Over 20,000 people witnessed the opening
ceremonies complete with fireworks, 400m national relay finals, navy
fighter planes, torch run and lighting (by a shot arrow!), dancers,
singers, musicians, athletes oath and representation from all 50 states,
US territories and overseas military bases.
BEACH VOLLEYBALL was included in the games for the first time and was
held at the Virginia Beach Oceanfront on Saturday, August 8th with the
following championship game results:
GIRLS 14:U - Mara Balak (San Juan Capistrano, CA) and Breegan Mulligan
(San Juan Capistrano, CA) def. Amber Bradshaw (Chesapeake, VA) and Erin
Bradshaw (Chesapeake, VA), 15-0
BOYS 14:U - Tim Schneider (Hermosa Beach, CA) and Tanner Sutherland
(Coronoa, CA) def. John McGee (Cary, NC) and Matthew McGee (Cary, NC),

GIRLS 16:U - Kirstin Ericson (Hermosa Beach, CA) and Jamie Grass
(Manhattan Beach, CA) def. April Bunn (Virginia Beach, VA) and Michele
Maibee (Virginia Beach, VA), 15-5
