"Bernard Tomic has been fined US$15,000 (AU$19,750) for bringing the
game into disrepute when he feigned injury in a first round Wimbledon
loss that drew the ire of the tennis public."
"The fine is the second largest in Wimbledon's long history."
"Tomic admitted to taking a strategic medical time-out and no longer
caring about his grand slam performances after his 6-4 6-3 6-4 loss to
German Mischa Zverev on Monday."
Daniil Medvedev also fined:
"Daniil Medvedev has been fined a total of $14,500 (£11,180) for his
on-court misdemeanours at Wimbledon yesterday, including throwing coins
at the umpire’s chair."
"The Russian denied he was accusing Mariana Alves of taking bribes
with the gesture in his second-round five-set defeat to Ruben Bemelmans."
"He was fined $7,500 (£5,780) for the coin-tossing incident as well
as further fines over a warning and having a point docked by the umpire.
Afterwards, he said: “I was just frustrated — it has no meaning. I
apologise.”
Tim Henman, who sits on various Wimbledon committees said this morning
that the warning was for racket abuse which is more serious on a grass
court as it damages the court for the rest of the tournament. It was
inside the court too - IE not outside the lines.
Unrelated, but Steve Darcis has withdrawn from his R2 match against
David Ferrer at 0-3 in the first set.
