The Queen officially opened the new session of the UK Parliament after
the recent election. It's an ancient, some might say archaic, ceremony
during which the monarch makes a speech from the throne in the House of
Lord's. It's known as the Queen's Speech, but is in fact a list of
legislation that the new government (in this case) has planned for the
next year. In addition the monarch reports on any state visits overseas
and any state visits to the UK. She did mention that next month there
will be a visit by King Felipe & Queen Letizia of Spain. No other visits
in the future though.
When pressed Downing Street said that no date has been agreed.
