He was defending behind the baseline in a way I have not seen before,
he was sliding on the HC, returning and hitting balls while sliding
and changing direction, I don't remember seeing him doing this before.
Actually he used to be slow recovering from a defending position in
comparison to Nad/Djok, today he was doing exactly like them but in a
smooth way.

to his forehand he does that when coming over the ball, trying to
neutralize or reverse the assault. Never as much as Djoker or even
Rafa of course.

It's all about holding the baseline for Fed against those two. That's been
success of these two have pushed him to update his defensive playing
style.
one of the real improvements this year....he demands to stay on the baseline
and does so by executing some vey difficult half-volleys.
