Having won the last contest, I guess I'll be the hot favourite this time.

Hope I'll find some time to check the draws (I'm helping my parents to
get their future house ready, mostly painting since I ain't skill for
much more!), and pick few names accordingly this time...
I totally forgot to vote for Wim and/or FO (can't even remember).

lol... Murray? Please
Wow... pleasantly surprised... can't believe Sharapova can beat Serena
at this stage. I hope that happens though. Can't believe people are
picking Sharapova for the final.

Nadal wins
picking djok > nadal gives little chance to win hops contest, as 2/3
of replies will have that pick. the murray pick will stand alone, and
i think this will the best chance of murray's life to win a slam:
-fed getting old
-nadal ever so slightly out of form
-djok, how do we know his shoulder isn't really a bit sore?
i almost picked fish. lol

Once again, thanks to Hops for hosting this bit of fun.

I guess stranger things have happened, but do you realize how rare it
is for a player to back up his/her first Slam
win by winning the very next Slam?
On the men's side, it hasn't happened once in the Open Era.
meanwhile, do you really think Serena can do it again?
I think she has the best chance, no? She can really only beat herself.
I wouldn't go as far to say she can only beat herself...the quality is there
now to beat her. For certain she is a long way the favourite.

But I hope Nadal and Sharapova! Then they can go and make an underwear
ad together. Or hell, even fake some beach pics! Damn homos.
I swear to God, you must either be a self-loathing homosexual or you
are a homophobe. Why do you bring up in almost every post that this
player or that player is gay? Don't you find it strange? This thread
is about predictions. Why bring it up here?
i'd like to see nadal beat djok. but i think nadal has been 1/2 step
slow since AO. his overall clay season was mediocre by his standard.
bob
Why don't you think Nadal will retain? Just curious.
Nadal can do it. But atm Djok would be favourite, he's still in Rafa's
head, I think.
Getting past Murray could be tough too. If they meet.
Djoke is still in his head. Of course he could...
Crap, almost forgot this time again!
Erm, eh...

Men draw: I'd like to see new slamist (Tsonga, Söderling, Berdych, and
few others, among wich Murray looks like the most likely, if Djokovic
wasn't playing this good this year)
Djoker is the obvious choice, very few players do have real chances
against him, since 2010DC.
Federer can beat him, but where will Roger's level be?
Tsonga has the tools to redo a giant killing ala Wimbledon.
Gasquet still remains a bit too fragile at slam.
Monfils has the triquiest first round, facing Dimitrov.
The first half of the draw is so much more dangerous than the lower
part (despite the fact that this second half having 3 different
slamists)
No idea of current Söderling, Del Potro form at the moment.
Nadal confidence has droped big time, crashing so many times in a row
into Nole's fortress wall.
Ferrer didn't play much lately (or was it me not following?!)
I did not check Women's draw for more than 2 minutes, to pick Serena's
opponent.
Federer d. Del Potro (turns out I don't like any of the lower half
players)
Wozniacki d. Lisicki
I'm surprised so many people are picking Kvitova to do well. At least
you're not picking her to win, but
she still seems ripe for an earlyish exit, sort of like what happened
with Sharapova at '04 USO.
:)
You cracked his code. Whisper is gonna be pissed.

I am so utterly terrible at these predictions. For any given player, I can
just see why they *won't* win. And then one of them does. :)
Djokovic d. Murray
Serena d. Bartoli
(Of course, I'd far rather pick Federer or Fish or one of the number 1
without a Slams (Jankovic, Wozniacki, et al), but...)

Yeah. Before 2009-2010, Nadal was always susceptible on hard courts to the
big-serving power hitter; that seems to be the case again this year. And
this year whenever he comes up against Djokovic, who can outrint him and
hit harder, he can't do anything about it.
wg

i think it's too late... but otherwise my 2nd change would be djokovic

Eek. When I was picking I forgot VW was in the draw because I couldn't see
her hiding, unseeded. It's many years since she won a major outside of
Wimbledon, but I agree, she's still not to be ignored.
wg
You were so right: she is allready out, I should have checked the
women draw a bit longer... :-)
She lost to A. DULGHERU, wich was far from unpredictable.
You know what - she has a terrible draw. The first match is against a
lower ranked russian. After that the likely opponent would be
Lisicki.... and so on... that's probably why you didn't *see* her.
Given her performance last year (i.e. losing to Kim in a tiebreak in
the semis after *not having played since wimbledon*) - it would be
foolish to write her off. At the same time she really needs some match
play and it doesn't appear that they are playing doubles either. Last
year she was seeded. If she can get a few matches in she will be a
contender, unfortunately the matches she needs to use to "warm up" are
all against tough players.
Now Bartoli is a really good pick. I think the most overlooked aspect
of her game is that both she and her father, despite all the ridicule,
really see her as a top player. In spite of everything she really
believes in herself. if Bartoli ever gets a good draw and reaches a
slam final again she won't crumble under pressure a la Stosur.
Unfortunately for her, her first opportunity was against Venus
Williams And her performance was stellar (all things considered).
his results aren't what i'm judging; i'm judging his game.
bob
Joe has posted at all since 3.8.
me too. she sucked since wimbledon. and i picked her as runnerup at
wimbledon.
bob
I'm sure that when he comes back he will be touched you were counting.
well, i'm glad that Kvitova didn't retire during her match. That
would have sucked!
She is the first W champ to lose in the first round of the USO in the
open era. Way to go!
You judge wrong.
.mikko
the GS results back up my judgment.
bob
Nadal of 2010 wouldn't have fared much better against 2011 Djoke, I'm
afraid.
I say that as a big Rafa fan but the truth is the truth. Those guys
had plenty of close matches on clay before this year
and Djoke's extra confidence and fitness was all he needed. I had very
little hope for Rafa heading into the clay season and
the French, but Fed did him a huge favor.
Nadal 2011 before USO already has 1 slam title and 1 final (and 1
master serie title, 1 other title and 4 master serie finals)
Fed 2008 at this similar point had 2 slam finals. (inc. abysmal blake
loss at Olympics and lackluster tuneup record with losses left to
right)

Just as well. :)
Federer lost to Nadal at MC+Hamburg+RG+W. According to slams he was
definitely peak until 2010 AO...he was in every final from 2008 AO to
2010 AO.
As when it comes to Nadal I'm not convinced at all that he's not at peak
still. He's been losing to Djokovic and then couple early losses at
Montreal+Cincinnati which actually is not that much out of the norm for him.
