The Barclays ATP World Tour Finals should not award any points in
ranking:

) Most players are excluded
) Ranking Points given for winners, however those excluded don't
have a chance to participate given they are not in "top 8"
)
)

What kind of screwball tourny is this??

Discuss! Please.

-------------------------------------------
The Barclays ATP World Tour Finals is a tennis tournament played at
the end of each year, involving the top eight players in the men's
tennis world rankings.
Unlike most of the other events on the men's tour, the ATP World Tour
Finals is not a straightforward knock-out tournament. Eight players
are divided into two groups of four, and play three round-robin
matches each against the other three players in their group. From
there, the two players with the best records in each group progress to
the semifinals, with the winners meeting in the final to determine the
champion. Winners are awarded up to 1500 rankings points.

Most players are excluded from other tournaments too. This one just
has a draw of 8 instead of 24 or 64 or whatever the tournament
decides.

In other tournaments you get in based on ranking, along with
qualifiers and wildcards. The WTF is only based on ranking and only
takes the best of the best which makes it so special. Every match is
big... no boring third round matches where the #1 takes on a player
ranked 200.

It's a very prestigious tournament that Nadal has never won (and probably
never will, frankly). A couple years ago he lost each and every match he
played...

So the rest of the top 10, and those who could qualify are excluded.
This could be considered fuzzy especially considering the points
awarded, and crooked.

Fishy, as a matter of fact, it stinks.

That's how Federer, Nadal, et al got where they are now, through the
ranks and qualifying.

This is not fair, and seems crooked somehow.

You are bordering on sub-sub-troll level.

Oh yes it can. He could lose to Monfils or Rochus next year :)
