What did he get done? You do realize that passing the house doesn't make
repeal/replace the law of the land (and yes, it is embarrassing to have
to explain this to a uni prof)?

The only thing embarrassing here is you being dumb enough to think that
my post implied that I don't know that passing the House alone doesn't
mean that a bill has become law.

Trump is getting immense things done and you liberals hate it, LOL.

Like I said, it's embarrassing to have to inform a "professor" of this
basic piece of information about his own government. What a disgrace!

If by getting things done you mean "bowing to Democrat demands" and
"caving or failing on nearly all of his campaign promises", sure. I hope
he continues this!

those people were paying the $5-10 for lottery tix in hopes of winning
something, when mathematically it was an incredibly poor bet. OTOH,
that $5 could buy a very nice sandwich.

Here it's mostly older retired folk buying tickets, & it's the ones that
could least afford it spending like 25% of their pension.

Sure the 'dream' keeps some of them going/living in hope, but why not
throw $5 at a ticket instead of $100+ every week?

People like to make excuses for their bad choices.

FWIW, my wife likes to gamble, really the whole experience of getting
dolled up, having some drinks, playing the slots, etc. We do that once a
week.

I go along because though I know the odds and don't really derive
enjoyment from betting, she looks amazing dressed to the nines and it
puts her in the mood so to speak, but I also maintain a tight budget on
it. To me the moment I withdraw the cash the money is at that moment
lost, I have no expectations of ever seeing it again and of course 95%
of the time we play until we lose it all. Most importantly, it's always
a sum that fits well inside our budget for entertainment so does no harm
to the family finances, and she accepts that once the money for that
outing is spent, that's it, no going to the ATM machine for more, LOL.
Even when we go to Las Vegas, as part of the trip I set an overall
gambling budget in advance, and she knows she has that much to spend and
no more.

It's no different to me than spending the money on anything else that is
consumed instantly, like a steak dinner at a nice restaurant or tickets
to a play or concert.

This professor obviously let things get out of control.

I often buy a ticket or two, it would rule to win the lottery, but spending 10's of pounds on it would be crazy, mind you have known guys earning a lot of money that spend at least £100 on it a month, they say cos it then they're in it with a better chance.

1st time i gambled as a 23year old guy in lake tahoe lost money
immediately on roulette, then went to the atm (bad idea). lost more.
stayed awake all night drunk arguing with my ski friends, and ruining
my ski trip thinking how to get it back. next night, lost more. :-)

then i learned a little about craps and found myself able for the next
couple decades to periodically go into a casino and either play for
hours losing very little, or actually win maybe once in a blue moon.
but great fun!

That's the best way to handle gambling - view the rolls of the dice or
spins of the wheel as entertainment, and you are paying to be
entertained. Then the "loss" of money is fine, as long as it fits your
budget.

I feel bad for this professor and her partner (?), but no way do they
deserve a cent back from her losses, that is 100% on her. Heck, if they
refund her money how do they avoid doing so for everyone else who lost
at their casino the past three years? She enjoyed the ride of gambling
(and she sure wasn't going to give any money back had she won, LOL) and
now wants a bailout. Sad.

Trump is getting done exactly what he wants to get done, which is make money for himself. Every visit to one of his properties makes him money. He's playing nice with every country where he has deals pending. That's his priority. He'll also help Rs pass some of their priorities (especially if it undoes some of Obama's legacy), basically in exchange for them looking the other way and not investigating any of it.

Trump has enough money. Liberal idiots like you still don't understand this clown. That's why you lost. And that's why you will lose again if you are unwilling to understand what drives Trump.

I don't think anyone ever said he was dumb in terms of taking advantage of a situation...that's what everyone said he's best at. If you gave him a US citizenship test he'd probably fail, though.

I'm talking about real life. E.g. not many doctors in their 60s
could pass anatomy test in their first attempt without any
reading and preparation, even though they work as doctors and are
qualified.

You think a doctor couldn't pass a high school biology test? That's about the equivalent of the citizenship test. You may need a new doctor...lol

Trump's only real life skill is scamming people. Nearly all his legit businesses were failures. Why do you think the only banks that would finance him for the past decade were from Russia? If American banks thought he could make a buck they'd finance him in a minute.

This bank stuff is boring. You know nothing aside you've red in

Not interested much. The thing is, Trump either can fire him, or not.

If he's operating within his jurisdiction, it's ok. If not, he
usurped power and has staged a coup.

Which one is it?
