Lendl was 12 times in YEC field and got 5 titles 4 runnerups and 3
semis.
When Vilas won it 1974 it was played on grass.
Since 1986 (when format stabilized : 8 players with 2 groups and RR
matches). There have been the following clean sweeps (title without rr
loss).

Lendl 86, 87
Stich 93
Hewitt 01
Federer 03,04,06

(yep Sampras/Becker with their multiple YEC:s always lost one RR match
in the title process).

YEC: 1988-2009 (about since AO became at least close to equal to other
slams).
AO winner = YEC winner : 94, 97, 04, 06, 07, 08.
FO winner = YEC winner: 00 (Kuerten)
WI winner = YEC winner: 94, 97, 99, 02, 03, 04, 06, 07.
US winner = YEC winner: 96, 01, 04, 06, 07

Hlasek (who) went 3-0 at RR 1988.
If Lendl has 9 finals (see above), Becker has 8 finals (3 titles and 5
finals).
Three times when Becker lost YEC final, he had won the match against
same opponent at RR stage.
(Edberg + 2xSampras).

Lendl did in 1986 when he played that classic 5 setter against Becker
and lost.

It must happen a lot, because there can be two people a year who are
3-0 in RR. Like this year both Federer and Nadal. At least one of them
will not win. It can even happen that there are two players this year
who are 3-0 in RR and not win.

Didn't Fed win all his RR matches in 05 and then lose to Nalby in the
final?
