He's playing a bit better than even I expected.

Rafa has been scary good, but Wawrinka has no penetration on his shot
and is making things too easy for Rafa.

I expected a straight-sets rout, so not surprised so far.

I expected straight sets too, but 6-2 3-0 is better start than I thought.

i expected rafa to play well. but stan looks feeble. no pace, no
corners, no painting lines.

perhaps you can only play as well as your opponent allows, but i'd
think stan would at least attempt it.

glad to see #s 10 and 15.

Imo that's the key - you can only play as well as your opponent allows.
Rafa is making Stan look worse than he really is. He can make him look
like Jesus Christ by feeding him balls in his wheelhouse.

Monumental numbers - 10 FO is mind blowing.

Yes, three more slams than anyone else's best at any other slam.

I thought Rafa would win something like 64 75 63.

I guess if Stan can make this 7-5 or 7-6 I'll be close, but he's already
broken him 1st game of 3rd & cruising along.

The only clear cut surface goat/boat in history - automatic tier 1
goat/boat category.

Among men, yes, with women, MN on grass and Serena on HC seem clear-cut
to me.

Though I would love to see Rafa play 1978 Borg on clay with wood rackets.

Like Djokovic did. No shame in losing that AO 5 setter, but those
two finals were pathetic effort and he made Wawrinka look that
great, just like Murray the other day here.

Expecting to win against such a hitter by defending is dumb.

In Djokovic's defense FO was a lot of pressure, beating Nadal and
Murray before the final, and he was not perfectly match fit at
USO, but it was still a matter of a wrong approach vs Wawrinka.

Nadal does it right. I'm glad to see no more "Stan doesn't lose
finals" nonsense.

not sure about boat.

That's what I mean about Rafa being the only 'clear cut' surface king -
he's not only completely dominated FO, but just about every clay tournament.

With every player we aren't quite sure as the numbers aren't in this
kind of category.

Same here. Rafa absolutely amazing on clay (a beast on a court of any kind really). Borg was so good/great on clay; then comes Nadal. Sports has internal laws of progressive governance along lines of cultural manifestation. For the balance of the 21st Century his will be a standard, a kind of hyper metric like Joe Louis' 25 heavyweight title defences or Babe Ruth's 714, which will more than likely last most of the balance of this century. At least one would think so. Even sports records have 'singularities' though true metric singularities (records) are - as one might expect - even more rare.
