General Robert E. Lee was the military leader of the Confederate States of America during the US Civil War. He is consider to be among the best generals of this war, right behind Grant and Sherman (who were US generals).

Actually, whether Lee or Grant was the better general is a hotly debated
topic. Lee was probably better on balance, given his usually inferior
quantity of material. But Grant's Vicksburg campaign - superb.
