6) Slayer: South of Heaven (this could be even #1 when I think about
it more).
7) Mercyful Fate: Don't Break the Oath.
8) Deep Purple: Perfect Strangers
9) Black Sabbath: Mob rules.
10) Helloween: Keeper of the seven keys #1 (I think I'd chosen Gamma
Ray's Heading for Tomorrow for this slot but I checked and it was
published feb 1990....).
Strangely I have never been any special fan of Back in Black
eventhough I really like AC/DC. Also according all the specs I should
like Judas Priest/Iron Maiden more than I actually do...(I also only
recently have started to like more and more Ozzy's solo career). Dio's
solo albums lack consistency for me. Always some great songs but then
a lot of chaff included in the mix.

comeback tour with a replacement for our deceased guitarist" phase,

Well I only like Opeth (from dm genre) and I never mentioned anything
about Rush (it was Raja who did). Rush is OK but I am far from being
any fan. But from opposite spectrum: I really like Pink Floyd.

I could probably stomach it on small doses. I'm like that with
Meshuggah. I like the music and the rhythmic complexity, but the voice
turns me off after a few songs. So I listen to a bit like once a month
or so. Gotta love Tomas Haake... sometimes I listen too closely and
find my breathing has gone off-rhythm :D

Technically Accept is older band than AC/DC as basis (the singer has
been same 1968-86, 1992-07) has been formed 1968 (started with another
name until renamed itself Accept mid-70:ies). And as B.Johnson moved
to AC/DC 1980...

Generally they have credited their "classical music" borrowings at
their records (there are a couple of more they have borrowed for
quitar solos like sabre dance etc).

The biggest problem with Rush they always managed to sneak 2-3 crap
songs even in their best albums (Fly by Night, 2112, A Farewell To
Kings, Hemispheres, Permanent Waves, and Moving Pictures). And of
course they have truckload of other crap albums.

I used to hate all growling vocals, but I've grown to like some of them...
generally those who mix it with clean vocals as it makes a great effect...
Opeth is awesome, Amorphis too...Dark Tranquility are amongst by new-found
favourites.

Book II is actually a way better piece in terms of musical coherence
(and complexity, something you seem in love with) of their "long
pieces". Book I is kind of like a bunch of song pieces thrown
together.
(though the little acoustic guitar epilogue is completely lame. The
song had finished perfectly already!)

Yeah both were pretty hardcore. Its quite metal the slam the ball at a
netrusher and then say "Nobody asked him to come to the net". Lendl
also used to collect parking tickets for driving 120 miles an hour.

hardly... I like complexity but the type of which of complexity which
is complex for the sake of complexity. I like good music, wouldn't
pigeonhole myself to one style. I seem to like rock, classical, jazz,
funk and electronic music much more than folk, country, pop/r&b, and
rap.

I do listen to all kinds of stuff (sometimes even MTV pop, though
not so much in recent years anymore). It's just that metal has
more good music than other genres...
Someone like GNR, they do have good songs...like five of them. But
Iron Maiden has something like five entire ALBUMS worth of just as good
songs as best GNR songs.
This is why Iron Maiden is metal GOAT. Their best form is not exceptional
compared to other great bands, but they have far more good stuff than
anyone else.

Genre classification can be quite eductional. When you hear Folk Metal/
Black Metal, you know the album is going to have a combination of loud
growling songs and slow mellow acoustic guitar songs.

I have two problems with Iron Maiden: 1) I really don't like Bruce's
voice (can't explain this) 2) I fail to see/hear the highlights of
their huge repertuare (they have a lot of good songs...but for me
their best songs are only good songs...not excellent, not classics.
Again: I *should* like Iron Maiden more but just can't.

songs both made is not a fair comparison. Also the best Maiden album

1. Seventh Son of a Seventh Son
-this has the best overall quality of all Maiden records, with even the worst songs being "above average" at least.
2. Powerslave
-contains couple of mediocre songs, but also some of the most iconic Maiden songs. Best sounding Maiden record,
with just the right balance of rough power & good production.
3. Somewhere in Time
-also very good overall quality with no actively bad songs. Awesome opener with soaring guitar parts. Overpolished
production and some unnecessary repetition in some songs take it down from perfection, though.
+ all the albums have just totally awesome covers.
But Piece of Mind and NOTB are great albums too, no question...

The Number Of the Beast. The Killers is not so good. Seventh Son is
their most prog, but somewhat boring (they are decent at doing this
prog stuff, but not in the league of say Yes or even Rush). Powerslave
and Piece of Mind has some really awesome songs, but some clunkers. I
did not find many faults with their debut and The Number Of The Beast.

-SiT has great songs, it's just that they are not the songs usually associated
with the album. And sadly, the band does not play them live anymore.
-the debut has classics, but poor production. NotB is a great album, but contains
few stinkers, and some of the better songs are way overplayed so I've got
bored of them (particularly Run to the Hills).
-don't personally like Killers, but some people think it's their best. Those
people generally despise Bruce era...

Well, Ripper era in Judas Priest was generally thought terrible. Blaze era
in Maiden wasn't that great either. Of course, it is debatable how much the
singers themselves were to blame. Black Sabbath...difficult to say. I am
not that familiar with Martin era Sabbath. Some seem to love it even though
it was a commercial failure. Arguably present Ozzy era is their worst, as they
aren't doing any new material...
And Metallica certainly was seriously hurt by Burton's death, and never were
the same again...

Bands typically flake out after 10-12 years... I have heard ever seen
a band at their peak past the 12th year. The latter shit eras should
not really count.
