If this was Halep, Radwanska or Stosur leading it would at best be a
50-50 proposition of them winning.

Rafa is a real champion so it's 99% certain he goes on with the job.

This was always on the cards after his disappointing collapse in AO
final. He wasn't going to leave anything to chance here.

It felt like that, didn't it. Rafa had to produce his best tennis precisely because this was a summation of what has characterized his career. And he did. A truly incredible tennis champion.

Yes, but surely he is due for a letdown now? He's had an amazing 6 month
run.

Fed has maybe played it smarter by taking a break. He'll be freshest of
all the players coming into Wimbledon.

Indeed. As you well know, Fed/Lubo/Luthi planned it that way. Though I can just as easily see NickyK or young Zverev or even Raonic blasting him out before a final. If Fed gets to the final, he'll be hard to stop.
